Burnley - Post Match Thread

Concerned about keeping him sharp for the big games. He has seen things in his game which are not quite on it & is trying to 'manage' him, which is a new thing for us.

Yaya was our best attacking player today imo & not there for strengh at all

I think Yaya was there in part to help defend set pieces, which he often does well, so I think his physical attributes were a factor in his selection but it is his passing and control of the ball that set him apart from most players.

We only won 7 away games the whole of last season??

I thought it was too few as well but now I count them- Watford, Everton, West Brom, Sunderland, Chelsea, Palace and Bournemouth. We only narrowly won three of those too. OUr away form has improved immeasurably.

He got it spot on because we won and that is all that matters mate.

I posted elsewhere before that as fans, the next 3 years are as much a learning curve about the game we all purport to know so much about as it is the players as the man is on a different planet and level.

The way some post on here, Pep is a league or two below them :>)

We have seriously improved if that is the case.

I am happy with todays result. I think Pep was trying to find out his best B-team as it is going to be a long season on all fronts.

I think Pep went with physicality and fresness for the most part.

Exactly. But I reckon Pep knows which is why I'm not questioning him on those decisions.

He's got a good week now to put his feet up. But I would imagine we need another in his likeness in the nit too distant future. Wish he was 23.
Fair enough, but I don't see why he can't be questioned on some decisions, isn't that why we have a forum. I'm not even criticising them strongly, just questioning some of them, and this week I can hardly complain, because we have 6 points and CL qualification, but that doesn't mean that some decisions can't be discussed either.

Oh absolutely. Question away. I'm just forwarding one possible reason why some are rested and some aren't.

Win ugly but win. I'll take it. Sergio's goals, also ugly (let's be honest), but Sergio — right place at the right time. That's what a great striker is, among other things. It'll do his confidence a power of good; We've set ourselves up nicely for the coming of December: Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool. That will sort quite a few things out.
Otamendi is easily our clumsiest defender. Sorry, there's no two ways about it. There's no short term fix for the defence but it's clear that it's one of Pep's major jobs for next summer. Zab got the run-around against Palace, Clichy was getting the run-around far too often today. Stones is a seriously classy defender who seems to have one big mistake in him most games. That will be ironed out and I have no worries about him. But I don't honestly think we can win the CL with this defence. PL champions next May maybe. There's work to be done.
