Bye bye Jaguar

I've had nothing but Jags for the last 20 odd years and none of them were shit to drive. My current XJ is 17 years old and coming up to 150,000 miles. I love it but sadly the last of what I call "proper" Jags. Four headlights and classic 3 box shape. The last XJ was ugly as sin and could quite easily be mistaken for any 'modern' saloon car. Shame. btw I ave driven an E-Type and that wasn't shit to drive either.
I had a Jaguar XK8 beautiful cars.

Just wait while they get hit with the updated car tax in April 25.

The new taxation classes are going to play havoc with new car sales if they emit too much Co2. If it's a range rover exceeded 255 gram per kilometre then it goes up to an eye watering £5490.

Loads of ice vehicles will see a doubling of road tax when bought new. Even the car tax for vehicles over 40k will see new additional bands extended from current 3 years to 5 years.

I get the heavy handed nudge to encourage the take up of electric vehicles but until the infrastructures in place it all just sounds a little unfair.

I said this in the electric car thread but forcing people to scrap perfectly good existing cars and buy new ones is a load of bollocks and I refuse to believe it can be better for the environment.

Here we go:
so glad I binned my 2021 Defender last year, road tax was disgustingly high and insurance was no better, and it spent a whole month of the 23 I owned it in the shop - beautiful to look at, beautiful to drive, but just financially a nonsense, even more so now. And their prices have just followed Jags into the sky too.

Jaguar sales in the UK have been in decline for years. It's the same with Land Rover, which they also own.

It's hardly surprising as their vehicles are among the most unreliable you can buy. I watched a video on Youtube a while ago posted by a guy who runs a vehicle recovery company. He was asked which vehicle did he most often have to recover.

''That's an easy answer. Anything made by Jaguar Land Rover' was his reply.

A friend bought a new Range Rover a while back, and he would concur with that sentiment. The problems he has had have been never ending.

It's the 2 litre engines, all basically shite.

My Mrs has an E pace, it's had £3.5k of new parts on it in 16 months, thankfully extended warranty on it, so not cost a penny, but trying to get rid of it now, no chance unless you sell it for peanuts, a lad who we take it to says all JLR cars are great business for him, a huge lawsuit has started in America he said regarding the 2 litre engine cars, and will be one here soon

Me!

I got the F-Pace because it’s a nice looking car and the Range Rovers were being stolen on an industrial scale near me.

Fair enough.

I’m not a fan of the looks, but as an old Defender owner I prefer old school 4x4s and not these modern curvy “SUVs”, but the theft thing I can understand. It is a problem, too many thieving scrotes in society who if it were down to me would get the noose.

Far too long servicing intervals is what causes the Ingenium engines to die. They suffer from oil dilution when people leave them 20k miles before an oil change…

But yeah, wouldn’t want to own one out of warranty, especially not knowing how it had been maintained (or not) by previous owners.

The last thing which made EML come on was a faulty Knock sensor, in for half a day, invoice came to £592! Unreal

But light not been back on since for over 4 weeks, which is a record.

I will stick with my BMW

The concept of jaguars was always beautiful and classic and I love the looks, but in reality they were all shit to drive and unreliable, anyone who's ever driven and E type Jaguar will probably agree.
The e type convertable is a beautiful design. Enzo Ferrari said it was the best looking car ever made, and he knew a thing or two about cars.
Also the 'morse' saloon, called the mk2 I believe, another great design.
I've never driven either though, sadly.
