The true reason is that sabella think he owns something to Romero because of the history with Argentina, and he will not bring Willy despite of his magnificent level.

I've never seen him play so have no opinion on how good he is, so this isn't a slight, but a genuine question. Why is he not in Argentina's world cup squad?

No idea. Seems an unusual one, given their number 1 Romero is a backup keeper at Monaco, and their 2 replacement options are both in their 30's, barely capped (Augustin Orion is 32, capped just 3 times, and players for Boca Juniors, Mariano Andujar is 30, capped 10 times and players for Catania in Italy) and hardly play for giants of world football.

That's what I was thinking, I thought there might be a non-football related reason.

Someone has suggested, whether truthfully or in jest I'm not sure, that Messi and Caballero don't get on too well. Could well be the reason, if true.

Though I have to say, I was surprised that he is not in Brazil right now. No Argentina call up is hard on Willy

I understand people saying we should've got a home grown keeper, but you've got to look at what's available. Joe Hart isn't world class yet, and he's by far the best home grown goalkeeper in the country, so any other goalkeeper is going to have as much chance of challenging him as they do currently for England. And how much do you reckon the 2nd or 3rd best English keeper would cost? Probably quite a bit more than £6m. That's if they're willing to come when they know they'd struggle to get on the pitch. Or we could pay less and get the 7th or 8th best English goalkeeper who would be happy to bench warm. But then we're paying (probably still quite a bit of) money for a player we know isn't good enough to start.

I think this is a great move. LFC paid what, 20m for Mignolet? IMO he's not that good. 6m for the best keeper in La Liga 2 years ago seems like a steal. Will push Hart to his best or Willy will be our #1. Either way our keeper position will be improved.
