Can we afford to let Barry go?

Cannot understand why we have loaned gazbaz , we will probably recieve a loan fee , and knowing tight arse kenwright that will be about half a million , and we will have to pay half his wages , this is the same everton who slagged our club over the lescott signing and their fans treat our annual league meetings as their cup final. Crazy bit of business , gazbaz should still be in our starting eleven , and he is far too good for the everton yard dogs.

Silver lining but they're paying all of his wages:

Also confirmed by Everton, as reported earlier, that they will pay Barry's full wages for the final year of his contract. (via @SunMartinB)

#mcfc agreed to Barry loan as #efc said they will pay 100% of his wages for the season. 100k + per week off city wage bill @SunSportNow

Good decision by the club IMO. Barry will play week in week out at Everton, whereas at City he'd have played very few games. With a year left on his contract and no prospect of him getting a new one, better he should go out and play football than sit on his arse at City for a year collecting a wage and playing maybe 10 games depending on injuries. He can't play against us so we don't have that to contend with. I suspect City held out for whatever deal they wanted on the loan and Everton waited until they had the United money. Barry gets regular football at a top 6 club in a world cup year.

From a squad point of view, I really don't see why we need a purely defensive midfield player with as little pace, energy and stamina as him when we've got Rodwell, Fernandinho, Yaya, and hopefully we'll see Milner given a chance there.

I actually agree with a lot of the people who say he's been brilliant for us. He was instrumental in both the FA Cup winning and League winning team. Proper champion and deserves his medals. Certainly goes with my best wishes.

That's an excellent post Billy.

A couple of things to add. Whenever we had a really big Premiership game against a top four rival as someone said earlier; Barry was nearly always our 8/10 player on the day.

Also, like many I don't understand why we let him go to the Terrorists which helps facilitate their sale of Fellaini to United. Put him in as Captain at Newcastle or West Ham or Swansea and it's simply a guarentee of a top 10,top 8 finish.

If we ever see him at the Etihad in an opposition shirt it will be a standing ovation from me.

I've watched City since 1978. My favourite ever player. I'm actually in tears. As sad as that sounds. Loved watching him play.

Fucking ell Bert he was good but he was no Kiki Musampa!

I'm sad to see Barry go but I can understand the club's decision. His lack of pace and age means he won't suit pellegrini's pressing/high tempo style. But he has been a huge part of our rise to the top of the game in his time at the club and we have missed him whenever he's not played. What Barry offers is quick, forward, two touch passing. He's he ultimate link up man and the amount of times he finds players like silva in advanced and dangerous positions is incredible. His covering of the full backs is decent and his tackling good (unless outpaced) but what he offered us that no one else could is exactly what we missed on Saturday: linking defence and attack without a pause. Again and again, always finding feet, even in tight spaces.

Likeable fella too, didn't let the abuse he got from idiot villa fans affect him too much and wisely kept sctum through it all. "He's only here for the money" they screamed at him and two years later he was integral to a title win.

Great signing for us , great signing for Everton and I believe he has a few more years at the top if he avoids injury. Sad day.

And it's ludicrous to suggest that city would make decisions like this on how it affects united. If Barry isn't part of the manager's plans and wants to go to Everton, you would be an idiot of the first order to say "sorry gaz. If we give you the move you want it will help those red bastards so you can play for the reserves this year ". Disregarding the £5m down he toilet, What message does that send to the rest of the squad?

Haha he wasn't indeed. He was a joy to watch. His first touch, the way he zipped the ball around; his vision and awareness. His ability to bully the opposition. He was always goal side..Loved the guy. Who will do Yaya's work now?

Got a lot of time for him and sorry to see him go. From a footballing perspective I don't think we'll miss him much though.
