Can we afford to let Barry go?

Simon Mullock tweeting that it's a loan so he can't play against us this season. That means we don't rate him highly enough to keep him for another year, paying his wages, but rate him highly enough to sacrifice a couple of million just so he can't play against us. Again, madness.

Also the decision to let him go is his wages, 120.000 per week, and we clearly see Pellegrini's plans, Barry would be a player that cant sit on the bench most of the time. For 120.000 per week it would be a little bit of joke...

If we loan him to Everton, at least they pay like 60-70.000 from his wages, pretty sure we have to pay the rest but at least we save lets say 60.000 per week. About 2.5m pounds...

I want Rodwell and Milner to get all those playing minutes what Barry would get this season.

Dont forget Mancini wanted De Rossi (or Javi Martinez) two summers ago, also last summer. The reason was to replace Barry. Not Yaya.

I think it's more the likely that no one wanted to buy him at a fair price. So City had the option of him sitting on the bench for most of the season or loaning him out to keep him active and save some money for a change.

Barry is twice the player Rodwell will ever be.
When Rodwell has half the England caps that Barry has and has been an indispensable member of a league-winning side, i'll come back to you and say I as wrong!

I think we should sold him and not loaned him out for a year. Everton have got him on the cheap.
 
In answer to the OP - no. But we have. Hope we don't regret it.

How some on here can write off a player who absolutely ran the shop at Old Trafford 6 months ago is beyond me.
 
I genuinely feel sorry for people who can't see how good a player Barry is/has been. The fact David Silva voted him player of the season the year we won the title says it all for me.

Rodwell was brought in to replace Barry (eventually). Garcia with De Jong also (different story).

I loved Gaz Baz but given his wages, he had to go. The deal itself and the way it was handled was disappointing to say the least. We've got no (and will get no) money for him and he'll leave for free. We'll save £120k a week, though. Note: every player who came in in summer of 2009 (our first bit of big spending) has now gone. They all came in on fucking daft wages and this has been addressed. Fair enough really.

Also note that Silva, Zabaleta, Toure etc have all been nailed down to new deals (part of a new wage structure) - basically, we're saving money long-term which is essential.

On the pitch, I'm worried. Barry's role was pivotal in the last few years. Fair enough, Manuel will want to play a different way and that's fine. However, Toure and Fernandinho are a lot easier to play against than Barry and Yaya. He keeps the game ticking. Fernandinho, evidently, needs time to adapt to the league and once he has done, he'll be a class player for us. No doubt. In the meantime, what is REALLY worrying is that our manager appears to rate Garcia over Jack Rodwell.

Rodwell has a lot of potential. I've not seen a young English player at City with so much potential for a long time. Genuinely could become a world class centre midfielder and, lets face it, he's got enough around him to learn from. I want to see Rodwell given the time Barry had in our team and the chance to adapt and play in our new system.
 
Sad to see him leave great servant to the club. His hard work never came unnoticed by me anyway.
 
very, very sorry to see him go. fair play to Everton, they have done a cracking bit of business there. hope he does well there.
 
Good decision by the club IMO. Barry will play week in week out at Everton, whereas at City he'd have played very few games. With a year left on his contract and no prospect of him getting a new one, better he should go out and play football than sit on his arse at City for a year collecting a wage and playing maybe 10 games depending on injuries. He can't play against us so we don't have that to contend with. I suspect City held out for whatever deal they wanted on the loan and Everton waited until they had the United money. Barry gets regular football at a top 6 club in a world cup year.

From a squad point of view, I really don't see why we need a purely defensive midfield player with as little pace, energy and stamina as him when we've got Rodwell, Fernandinho, Yaya, and hopefully we'll see Milner given a chance there.

I actually agree with a lot of the people who say he's been brilliant for us. He was instrumental in both the FA Cup winning and League winning team. Proper champion and deserves his medals. Certainly goes with my best wishes.
 
Will miss you Gaz, a true pro and your career deserved a Premier League medal. Hope you do well at Everton and earn your place at the world cup. Bang one in against Utd mate you know you wanna ;)

IF pellers changes his system then I agree but playing a flat 4 in midfield with yaya and ferd central will cost us unless ferd is told to be the holding player and is disciplined in doing so.......but its against his nature to be completely holding...

I agree milner or rodwell could do that defensive midfield job.....BUT the question is, is this is what Pellers is going to do....continue with the 4 in midfield and we will struggle to get top 2-3
 
Always expected his depature the moment Pelligrini got the job,. Sad day for me always held him in high regard, good player did the unappreciated stuff excellently.

There will be certain times / games this season when we'll miss him. Let's just hope they're not critical.
