One of the most consistent performers this club has ever known. Brought by Hughes, yet retained by Mancini, under whom he improved markedly as a player, easily adopting the Italians completely different tactical outlook on the game, to an extent where if Barry was fit under Mancini, he played.
Still remember his performance at Wolves when, after utd fucked up at home to Everton, he bossed the midfield and didn,t allow the home side any room what so ever to play, snapping into tackles, marking space and pressing so hard that the determination on his face said only one thing..i want that title winners medal.
Players like Barry will always be under-appreciated by the majority of football fans, esp. those who have never played the game.. i hear folk on here wax lyrical about kinkladze and such like, a player who never turned up away from home and wouldn,t know what teamwork was if it hit him in the face.
Its funny because every single previous manager that Barry has played for has seen fit to pick him for EVERY game.At Brighton, Villa and at City ...Benetiz at Liverpool was gutted not to persuade him to join the red scouse when he left Villa..to such an extent that he made some bitter comment in the press about him choosing money over history ...thats how pissed off a top manager was when he couldn,t get his hands on Mr consistent.
When he joined us i recall reading a Villa fans comment.." You wont notice Barry that much when he is playing...the second he is out of your team you will notice straight-away"
