Can we have a poll on Dzeko....?

I don't think anyone's disputing his goalscoring record/contribution, it's just the frequency with which he has a poor game and comes up with one or 2 important moments. Everyone accepts that good players can have poor games, and sometimes it only take 1 moment of brilliance to win a match.

The problem is the key to consistency of results is controlling football matches, if your strikers hold onto the ball up the pitch it makes it a hell of a lot easier to create chances, score goals and put pressure on the opposition. At the moment Dzeko doesn't hold onto the ball well enough, often enough in my view.

I think he's a very good player, but we're at a level now where if your striker scores i don't think you can completely disregard the rest of his performance, there's more to it than that.

I think he'll get better though, if we stick with him....and support him.

Well said Sir. I think there's a player in there but it's been a year now and we need to see him performing like we know he can, on a consistent basis.

For me he has all of the difficult parts to the game in abundance - skill, ability, work ethic, technique, but he has one huge gap that, until he sorts out, will prevent him from being amongst the very best, and that is aggression.

I'm not saying that he has to be like Shearer, or a menace like Bellamy, but he is a big strong fella and he needs to put himself about - be a thorn in the centre backs side, bang into them, foul them, put them under pressure, worry them, be aggressive.

If he was able to do that he would frighten the life out of defenders, cause them to make mistakes, foul him, get them wound up and attract more defenders thus creating space for our other skillful players i.e. mario, sergio, silva etc.

Whilst he is weak and gives them an easy ride he will never be top class. The irony is the fighting qualities are something he could develop.

He would be amazing in my opinion if he could do this

Oh and finally he needs to keep his chin up if he hasn't scored for a game or two and keep battling.

At Wolfsburg, they seemed to be always whipping balls into the box for him, and he looked great - powerful, confident, great striker of the ball.

But when he's up-front with defenders around him and receives the ball with his back to goal, he can look rubbish (clumsy, even).

But although lots of people reckon he's "rubbish", he's still on target to score 20 goals this season (maybe) and if you really can hit 20 a season while being "rubbish" then it's not a bad knack to have.

Bundesliga = shit defending.
Bullshit, the only teams that concede less goals in CL and Europa League than the germans are english teams. They concede less than italian teams, not to mention the teams from the spanish El Duelo league.

Dzeko is more important to the team than people realise

The Spurs game the other day was a great example. He can have a poor game but still have an influence and come up with important moments, this is what big players do.

For the 1st goal it was his movement that dragged away the central defender, which allowed Nasri to run clean through and score.

For the 2nd goal, it was his flick on that got the ball to Lescott to score.

All this while having a poor game by his standards. I think he needs to be more consistant for sure but he is an important player in the team who needs more quality service.
And yesterday he had another poor game, yet he managed to score, should have had a penalty and a good pass to AJ. With a little luck his actions would have resulted in 3 goals. I really don't understand what people expect from a striker, maybe he should do some useless but cool-looking moves everytime he gets the ball.

Worked hard and was absolutely everywhere for the last 30 minutes; you could tell he wanted to win. On top of that, he scored a goal and whipped in a beautiful pass to AJ (which he does with some frequency) that could have won us the game. He is the last player I would blame for the loss last night. The first half was a total clusterfuck tactically where there was no movement forward whatsoever. To think Edin is to blame for that is to think he is to blame for everything (or any one player, really) -- just confirmation bias.
He was awful last night goal aside.

Could hold up his own socks.

For me, Dzeko is ahead of Balotelli every day. I back him big time now to take his chance while Mario is suspended as the guy needs more game time and to be given belief he is a star striker for us 'cause at the moment he probably feels 3rd choice and all strikers thrive on confidence from not only themselves but the team and manager.

I couldn't disagree more. Balotelli is one of the most important players on the pitch and does not deserve to be dropped for an inconsistent Dzeko.

Nah, Dzeko for me. Difference of opinion, you could say why you think Balo is one of the most important? Stats will prevail though, pretty sure Dzeko has created more scoring chances for team mates, scored more goals and in less games probably and pretty sure has more assists.

You can't call Dzeko (or anyone) inconsistent when he doesn't get a consistent run of games.

This is the crux of the division of opinion amongst blues.

Some will say that he scores goals, what more do you want from a striker?

Others will argue that although he can score, he has put in some woeful performances and cannot perform consistently.

Hes a striker who scores goals, 15 so far in all comps and we are only half way through the season.. if he scores a goal a game for the rest of the seaon some on here will still moan that apart from scoring he does fuck all..
