Captain Sir Tom Moore - memorial attacked (P11)

RIP Sir Tom.

He fought in the same campaign as my granddad in Burma. Hell on earth in the early stages, apparently. Almost everyone got malaria at some point, until later in the war when the anti-malaria drugs were developed. Captain Tom got dengue fever which by all accounts is even worse. It's a shame to see that direct link to these events slowly disappearing.
My grandad too. Health had declined badly by the time it finished, to the point he had to be hospitalised in Blackpool for a short time after.

When you see the idiots at this time going to parties, and 1000's going around Dovestone Res etc with no masks and no distancing, it's easy to think these losers will bring us all down.

But then a 100 year old man takes on a massive challenge and raises millions through his efforts. RIP Sir Tom, an absolute hero now and in years gone past. If only we had so many more like you.

To be fair, that army was the biggest in the whole war, with over a million men, so it's not a surprise that a lot of people had family who fought in it. It's amazing that it's not a better known part of the war, to be honest.

Rest in peace Captain Sir Tom Moore.

It’s not who you are underneath, it’s what you do that defines you.
