Car driving standards

My awareness and eyesight definitely isn't a good as it used to be... but I have to say.... since roads went crazy with cameras and there being potential catastrophic consequences for even fairly conservative drivers doing 34 in a 30.... my driving has got worse, looking for cameras, trying to work out the speed limit (not as easy as it used to be, some traditional 40 style roads are now 30 or 20!!) looking for bus lane cameras, looking for speed traps, and that's before watching out for morons, bikes, twats on phones, cabbies, white van assassin's,. Just seems the system is out there to get the big money from the easy market... not the psycos doing 80 camera to camera, but average Joe's, trying to make a living nudging over the limit occasionally and unintentionally. I have to say, I HATE driving now and would give up tomorrow if we had realistic public transport.

This morning drove 3 miles on a duel carriageway. Me on the inside lane, a twat 4x4 sitting in the outside lane about 100 yds behind me all the time.
Approaching the roundabout i move to the outside lane to turn right. 4x4 moves to the inside lane to go straight on i guess.
I turn turn right move into the inside lane off the roundabout, I can't because the 4x4 has turned right from the left hand lane. He was in the correct lane to turn right for over 3 miles ! Yet chose the inside lane to turn 90 degrees right.
How the fuck are these drivers allowed on the roads ?
Sitting in the outside lane overtaking no one with a queue of cars behind him, then switch's to the inside lane to turn right.

Our council has started put up signs as you approach roundabouts now telling you which lane to get in. Example inside lane Canterbury, outside lane London. Yet drivers still take the London turning from the Canterbury lane.

Rant over

Due to my knee replacement I was off the road for five weeks and once cleared to drive again, my first journey was to Walsall
I'd forgotten how poor people's motorway driving standards are. So many car drivers just sit in lane three
Unless they are advising of speed restrictions, every matrix board should have the message of "use the left lane unless overtaking"

Sitting in lane 3 of a four lane motorway when the first two lanes are empty is another one I see, especially at night.

Don't know if it was the sulphur from the fireworks sending people nuts but the trip to the game last night was 'interesting', saw two separate instances of people driving on the wrong side of the road to bypass the queue for a right turn. Generally it was probably the worst standard of driving I can remember experiencing in Manchester.

Car driving standards are shite. For example, indicating right when going straight ahead at a roundabout; where did that shit come from?
And driving on sidelights at night. OK it's not illegal but there is a reason every car fitted with automatic lights illuminates dipped headlights when activated at night.
And not using the hard shoulder when it is a running lane, though I appreciated some people don't want to be driving so close to the edge of the road.

People are just driving too fast, and its pointless. There are so many cars in the roads and the infrastructure is such that you just arent going to get their much quicker if it all than anyone else. We have all been bullied by a tailgater or undercut by someone who has to race past, and then ended up and the same set of lights or roundabout or main junction as them due to the road layouts and volume of cars using it. It isnt even about speed limits really, its about just being sensible and keeping that 2 second rule and everyone will then be tickitiboo, moving steadily and without risk, and calmer. Like much of what is wrong with everything, people are generally and increasingly just cunts

^^^ THIS - especially when you are driving somewhere new - recent cases for me include Leeds (what a sh*tshow of road system that has) and Nottingham (the average speed camera city, I hate it)

I always indicate right when taking the 2nd exit, this is to ensure that any idiot joining from the 1st exit is aware that I'll be crossing their front. I only hit the left turn indicator when I'm just passing the 1st exit. That's not illegal and the highway code only says "you should not normally need to signal on approach".

I set off from work late to avoid traffic, the M60 is usually clear on most occasions by the time I join it but this week has been mental.

Too sensible for most of the twats on the road nowadays

If you are going straight on at a standard four-way roundabout you don't indicate on entry and signal left after you've passed the first exit.

A lot of the issues are with cars simple being too fast these days. In the past 20 years cars have gone horsepower crazy especially the German saloons.

There was a great opportunity to get cars down to a lower more sensible amount of power when electric cars came about but instead they are the worst of the lot. The cheapest Tesla on sale today has a 0-60mph time of 5.8 seconds!

Correct. You signal your intensions at the junction you are at and everyone else should understand it. People are twats at roundabouts they treat like either an annoyance or an obstacle

I've always used the 2 second rule on motorways, here in Malaysia they see it as not keeping up, the default thing for other drivers is to tailgate so close you cannot see the front of their car in your mirror. And they wonder why over 6,000 die on the roads every year!!

People don't seem to realise that in the appropriate conditions, with a professional driver in the seat, such acceleration can be achieved.
However, on roads in the UK, there's always that puddle or pothole to put a stop to that.....

Driving fast in urban areas is pointless, you just arrive at the next set of lights which are always red quicker.

I'm definitely one day going to batter someone who doesn't merge in turn. It's my biggest peeve on the roads.

People just don't get it.

Outside my daughters school they have those cardboard cut out police telling people not to drop their kids off there, a campaign brought about by a mother who lost her son due to stepping out from behind a parked car. Anyway this **** pulls up right in front of them to let her kid out, 2 members of staff in high viz's promptly tell her to do one. She then proceeded to move off and park up 3 yard down the road, on double yellows, right infront of the crossing with a lollypop lady who was just shaking her head in disbelief.
Absolute selfish ****, and that is the problem with a lot of drivers now.

Not sure what's changed as it never used to be a problem.

See also people using slip roads on dual carridgeways/ motorways. Match the speed or wait for a gap. Or just blindly pull out as it's your right to join. This also includes people who brake to let said idiot onto the road. Suddenly. With no thought to what's behind you.
