Cardiff City (A) - FA Cup - Pre Match Thread

We are going to play a weakened team, they are going to press the living daylights out of Bravo and Danilo and we are going out of our first competition on Sunday.

There will be some piss-taking and handwringing but in the end, going out of the FA Cup will get us to the Champions League final because of the reduced demands on the squad. The problem with this is that we are going to lose the final in a "Typical City" fashion, on penalties or in the last minute.

Yep, far too defensive and cynical a mentality among British coaches in general. It's funny really, most of the jibes thrown at Serie A and Italian football are actually more accurate of British football. Diving, surrounding referees, tactical fouling, parking the bus etc. Only Portugal is worse imo.

I think it stems from when they were players and that was the game then. They prob had some success playing that way and see it as a successful strategy, albeit totally outdated now

Yeah could start a whole topic on it really but the continent has moved on from catenaccio since the Sacchi/Cruyff days, England hasn't. It's telling really that Benitez and Maureen get praised by the media here for their style of play but were abused by the Spanish media for it and are held in contempt in Germany. Also telling that their only jobs in Italy came at Inter who've clung on to their shite style of play since it was they who invented it (even they and Juve are trying to move away from it now).

Eddie Howe plays the right way at Bournemouth, plenty of British coaches could take a leaf out of his book, he's destined for a big club one day, would love to have him at City when Pep retires.. ;-)

I don’t think Cardiff could press a pair of pants. They may try the odd long ball, but will lose to a far superior team and coach QED !
