Who/what did he speak out against?
Was it Mancini who wanted him out?

Apparently Mancini thought De Jong had too much influence in the dressing room...

I don't know if its true or not, just something that was mentioned.

outrageous if true

It probably isn't. He was a bit part player for the last season he was with us and he tore his Achilles half way through the season with Milan if that had happened here then we would be paying a player and giving him treatment at a high cost knowing that he would walk on a free or cost the earth to renew and be a shadow of his former self. Got rid at the right time, move on peeps.

It does make you think about it now, and to be honest I can see it being true.

Would the club really of swapped De Jong for Garcia? Even if it was for a like for like free swap we would not have done it.

Why sell De Jong for 3m then buy Garcia for 16m when De Jong is clearly the better player? Even non-City fans knew that.

De Jong was a world cup finalist, one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and clearly loved by the other City players as we had seen on Inside City.

Definately something suspicious went on with our Nigel.

De Jongs contract was up and we weren't prepared to pay him what he wanted so it was a case of £3m then or nothing down the line.

Using world cup finalist to praise him is a bit of a half truth considering he should have been shown a straight red and could have cost his team the game.

£3.5 rising to £5m depending on appearances.

Sack the Board :).

Not quite ;)

They made a good decision in moving Mancini on and they will prove their worth this summer. As for the owners, we won the Euromillions with them, Liverpool won the Thunderball, Rags won a tenner but lost the wallet on the way home.

I guess we wont be seeing THAT £1.5M!!

He was trying to leverage a fat payday while the management needed younger, more technically proficient replacements. Funny how guys are high on Rodwell and deride Garcia, yet NEVER compare buying Rodwell to selling NDJ?!

Hmmm, selective memories?!

sorry but im a fan of defensive midfielders who can run and cover ground in order to stop/slow down oppositions attacks.

Garcia cant even get near to anyone.

when a team plays a possession based game a player like de jong is important as it helps stifle the opposition counter attacks.

True in one sense but Rodwell boosts our English quota which is a necessity in the Premier League.

i had to post this due to how outrageous it is.

Toronto FC has shot down a report that it is willing to break the bank to sign Argentine star Carlos Tevez.
A report from Brazil's Lancenet said the MLS team and Monaco were both after the Manchester City forward, with Toronto offering US$10 million.
"We are not in talks to acquire Carlos Tevez," a team spokesman said Thursday when asked about the report.

Tevez is a talented if mercurial striker on big wages at Manchester City. What appeared to be a leaked pay slip in March 2010 indicated he made a gross wage of 720,287 pounds (US$1.4 million) in that month alone with an extra accommodation bonus of 20,000 pounds.
Monaco, which is owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, has been spending freely since being promoted to France's top tier. Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is the latest star on its radar.
The top-earning Toronto player is Dutch striker Danny Koevermans who is due to make $1.663 million this season.
Tim Leiweke, the incoming president and CEO of TFC owner Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, has had success with marquee players in the past. Leiweke was with the Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owned the Galaxy, when Los Angeles signed David Beckham.
"I've been told by the (MLSE) board and the owners that if we find the right guy, they are all in and that they are committed to that move," Leiweke told a conference call in April following his hiring.

The thing I don't understand is that not a single top European club has a player as limited as NDJ, yet somehow a good few are longing to see him back at the club. Even if he had stayed, his time with us would have surely been up after bringing in the Barca boys and Pellegrini. Aside from the banter he brought to the dressing room, he was a totally unnecessary player to have football wise.

Should probably get back to the topic at hand now.

Nah.

Mancini should have insisted he was moved on at the end of 2012 season for the good of the team.

He owes us nothing and he has helped shape our history , but his time is done IMHO .

Farewell Carlito ?

Carlos Tevez will meet Manchester City bosses next week to discover whether he has a future at the Etihad Stadium. The Argentina striker, 29, has a year remaining on his contract and has been linked with Monaco and Juventus.[The Times]
