CAS judgement: UEFA ban overturned, City exonerated (report out p603)

The punishment (the fine for not co-operating) was from UEFA though, the PL have their own rules and they're not dependant on the UEFA case.
They do have their own rules but if they're going to try and nail us for the exact same things that UEFA did then it more than likely ends up back at CAS with another City win and I'm not sure the PL would really want that. Now it could be that they have something different on us - in which case we perhaps should be concerned - but I'm not sure that's the case.

I'll also add that I think City carry a bit more clout in our own domestic league than we do within UEFA so if any clubs want to act like cunts in trying to lobby the PL in getting some trumped up charges thrown at us then they're going to be very disappointed and it could end up backfiring spectacularly on them. There's also the recent ESL shenanigans to consider as well, and while City were involved we weren't the ringleaders but those clubs that were know they have to behave themselves in future.

Agreed with all of that. I am a bit puzzled as to why this is going to The High Court(?) though, even if it's only some procedural beef. I thought that CAS handle everything like that? It's even more puzzling that if it is more or less the same as the UEFA case why the PL haven't just stopped proceedings. I wonder if we'll ever know.

Yeah, it's all a bit odd. Could it be that there is no real appetite to pursue this on the PL's behalf in light of the CAS verdict but they've got to go through the motions? I too don't know why the High Court are involved but maybe that's how it works domestically? I'm sure someone can shed some light on that

I may be wrong but my understanding is that most sporting bodies and the members agree to use CAS as the ultimate arbiter in a dispute. CAS is not a court it's more like an independent body and its powers are not legal powers like a court has. You can ignore a CAS ruling but typically the rules of a sporting body state that CAS must be followed.

Why is this in high court and not CAS - i dont know. I would have thought that the PL would have a rule in place that states all such issues go to CAS.

Is David Fucking Gill (DFG) a new addition to the high court judges panel maybe?

Edit, my mistake, it’s DCG

@Chris in London captured lots of detail in this excellent post on the original thread and maybe answers your question:

Presumably it may mean that it isn't a sporting regulations matter, but a domestic issue? Something on e.g. tax wouldn't go to CAS.
