Cashless society

I think you must live a very old school life in a bubble mate. Pay bills with cash?!

The real world has moved on. Most people absolutely do not “pay with cash where they can”.

I said used to pay cash mate, the option isn't available anymore since banks closed and everyone was forced into paying digitally.

I agree I have an old school life but the new way of thinking is "Everyone" must adapt and that just isn't true, if a business is card only and it works for them then good for them but there's nothing like the feel of a crisp 20 pound note changing hands.

Well, shiny slippery hard to handle 20 pound note now ;)

I can see why people do it as it's easier and should be quicker. Also for businesses it limits employee's dipping the till, although some clever ones will find a way. You do have to be careful though. Only on Sunday in the pub the barmaid ( Is this word allowed now, lol? ) Shoved the card reader at me and normally I just tap my card without really checking the amount. Luckily this time I did as it was showing £8 instead of £3.46! Speaking to one old boy later he said when he checks his bank statement he is charged a different price for the same drink quite a lot. Then there is the worry that the powers that be could just cancel your cards and freeze your account. Once done, without cash, you wouldn't be able to buy even a bottle of milk. You would be fucked.

I’m no expert but to be charged £2.5K he’d probably be taking something like quarter of a million, which doesn’t sound too bad for a small buttie shop.

I wonder if he’s ever noticed that banks charge a not insignificant fee every time a small business pays cash in over the counter?
He probably doesn't, he puts all that cash into a big suitcase under his bed and pays all his bills in cash. :)

On my account 2.5k charges equal about 80k

The only question on this thread should be who does a cashless society benefit the most? And if it’s not society, then it’s not beneficial to anyone who has ever posted on this forum.
