Catalan leaders sentenced

Lets not forget that just recently the Spannish finnaly managed to evict Franco's corpse from his monumental mausoleum. It took a lot of time and controvery even to get just that done. Spain arguably lacks a lot of democratic traditions and institutions in comparison to many other European nations and it took some reform in that regards for Spain to be comply with European rules iirc.

I love how some on here are accepting Spain as the be all and end all of a huge area, what about the Basque region ? why should an area be governed by some place they don't accept. The Pyrenees area was home to Occitanie. they had their own language (still do) the people were brutally murdered by the Parisian army on behalf of the catholic church. Their area stretched to both sides of Spain and France and yet now they are forced to be one or the other. The Catalans want independence, are the Spanish so frightened they might win that they have to imprison people along side drug dealers and armed robbers ?

They did win the vote.

It took place and Spain said it didn’t count.

yes perhaps my final part as worded wrongly, I believe they should have the right to self determination and I am aware they held a vote which they won. The 'country' called Spain is a mixture of regions, cultures, languages and lifestyles. Madrid, like Paris have historically imposed their will on others whether they like it or not. For what it is worth I have the Cathar symbol on my garage and I knew someone that could sing the 14 verses of the Cathar national anthem. Vive la Occitanie.

No problem.

I used to see a Basque girl mate, they’re pretty adamant about it, I can confirm that!

The referendum was boycotted by the those against independence as Madrid had said it wouldn't count.
The polls over the last 10 years are pretty consistent with independistas getting around 48 percent.
Given that I believe referendums should need at least 60 percent to overturn the status quo then that's not enough.

Having said all that the Spanish state's behaviour has been pathetic.

Hey listen, I’m not arguing for Catalan independence, it’s none of my business.

Just pointed out that they had a vote.

and if they were not frightened of the outcome the Spanish government would not have set about beating innocent women and children.

Now it is Peps turn to be attacked, fortunately it is not by the Fascist baton wielding thugs otherwise known as the cops, this time it is a Spanish newspaper spewing bile and hatred at him.
