Was watching a Spanish boffin who teaches at a uni in Chicago on France24 news last night and he was virtually debunking the figures being bandied about by the Spanish government on the support for Catalonian independence within Catalonia
He said the vote on 1st October was not a true indicator of support, a lot of Catalans didn't vote purely because of the violence at the voting stations, support was roughly 43% before the vote, during the day it rose to 50%, by the end of the day it was roughly 53% and by last night it was over 60%
He pointed out that the Spanish governments hard thuggish line had turned many Catalonians against them, not only Catalonians but Spaniards were not happy with them
When questioned about the number of people at pro government rallies in Barcelona he said that they were bussed in from Spain and it was all staged by Madrid and caught on camera
Having said this i am not a great believer in Polls as we have found out in this country
Galicia, The Basque Country and Andalucia will be next

Simple way to resolve things would have been to stall the poll - as they were asked to - and lobby to get a legally recognised poll - like Scotland got - then any result would be decisive.

I’m no expert on these things but on holiday a few years back a taxi driver was telling me that Andalusia despises Madrid and “Spain” because during the Franco years they received virtually zero investment etc.

Certainly the area was very much anti Franco but not sure that means anti current España does it ?

Independence has never been won by committee ,it has to be fought for , I'm not sure they have the bollocks to do that.
