I wonder what De Laurentis will make of comments which might as well have stated let's forget an auction of any kind, then?

Strange way of trying to earn a supposed dream move to Real Madrid, not helping Napoli to realise as much of the buy-out clause price.

Would not be surprised to see these quotes from Cavani's dad denied in the next few days, to bring the pot back up to a boil.

Trying to be all things to all people. Thankfully, City seem wise to this and have imposed our own deadline.

When do you think our deadline is, a week, two?

IMO, it's clear he'd rather go to RM than us and these drawn out transfers rarely go well for us.

Not ITK at all, but I have to imagine it's sometime in very early July.

I know I keep harping on about this but the player wants to concentrate on Confed games there will I have no doubt be all sorts of quotes from every man and his dog regarding this transfer, this is going to run into July, the good thing is we have put a deadline on it and I think all or most of our transfers this summer will be done before we resume our training whether Cavani is included or not.

SKY have just announced two weeks.

That fits with what was posted yesterday.

I don't think Cavani is closed-off to any of the clubs chasing him.

If you had three beautiful women trying to get into your pants, you would edge your bets too.

They can all give you more or less the same thing. One might age a little better.

I would state everything up to this point has been discreet fumbling in the dark.

That post conjures up all sorts of imaginings, why choose one when you could have all three but I suspect that is being greedy. :-)

That's where you lost me, I'd have taken the first one and legged it.

Cavani's dad now coming out with quotes about his son wanting to join Real Madrid:

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani will reject a move to the Premier League and has set his heart on a move to Real Madrid, according to his father.

The 26-year-old is one possible target for the Spanish side as they search for a replacement for Gonzalo Higuain.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also believed to be tracking the Uruguayan, who scored 36 goals in all competitions last season.

"Cavani's intention is to play for Madrid," Luis Cavani told Futboleros. "He is excited about it and is very willing to see it through.

"He has told the family in private that he wants to join Real Madrid but if he declares it publicly it will annoy Napoli."

Luis Cavani, Edinson's father

He added that representatives from Madrid had already held talks with the player but is concerned that Napoli's valuation of his son may prove a stumbling block.

"There has been contact with Real Madrid's lawyers and now we are waiting for the two clubs to meet," he said.

"I hope it happens and that talks take place as soon as possible. Who wouldn't want to play for Real Madrid?

"It's not just up to Edi. They are talking about 65million euros and Napoli won't negotiate for any less."

So after a fortnight speculation we are at least still in the hunt and if anything Chelsea have dropped a little out of the hunt, and it's City v Real Madrid with Real Madrid surprise surprise the Spanish-speaking South American's favourite. But will they go in for him?

Reminds me a little of Barca v City over Alexis Sanchez, however it was always really clear then that Barca wanted Sanchez. In this case we don't really know how keen Real Madrid are on Cavani.

50/50
