There have been a lot of assertions in this thread about the scoring performances of Dzeko, Aguero, Tevez and Cavani. Here are some CAREER statistics in the major European Leagues taking into account time actually on the field. Ranking them in terms of minutes per goal:

Dzeko [Bundesliga + Premier League; 2007 +] 96 goals @ 137 minutes per goal
Cavani [Serie A; 2006 +] 112 goals @ 149 mpg
Aguero [Primera Division + Premier League; 2006] 109 goals @ 162 mpg
Tevez [Premier League; 2006 +] 84 goals @ 174 mpg

If penalties are excluded, the mpgs are D 140: A 172; C 178; T 205. (15% of T's goals have been penalties; 16% of C's goals have been penalties).

There has also been much asserted on here about what various strikers also offer. Here are their MINUTES PER ASSIST for those same games:

Dzeko 321 mins per assist
Tevez 340 mins per assist
Aguero 422 mins per assist
Cavani 618 mins per assist

Oh, Look! Dzeko is better than Tevez! And Cavani is way behind the others.

Those stats don't really prove that do they? Dzeko better than Aguero too is he???

Adam Le Fondre scores a goal every 127 minutes so is obviously better than our strikers.

I should have made clear that, when I wrote "Dzeko is better than Tevez!", I meant in terms of the minutes per assist statistics.

haha this.

I really do hate the modern generation of stats.

Your eyes will always be the best judgement on a player.

Yes, but given the findings that you are using to say Dzeko is better than Tevez, Dzeko is also better than Aguero. Football is not a science. Look at Messi's record for Argentina. Dzeko is definitely our most clinical striker, but he isn't our best striker. Aguero and Tevez provide more for the team.

Anyway moving away from that, given that we are in a position where we sell Dzeko or face losing him cheap next year, it looks likely that he will be given a chance at City next season, and hopefully he is utilised and we play to his strengths. Tevez, given his age and the fact that he likes to play deeper, could be one to let go now. We have attacking midfielders who can do a better job in the position Tevez occupies and we can allow Aguero to play on the shoulder more effectively with better supply.

Oh and just to be back on topic, whilst I would love to see Cavani at City it seems because of Dzeko to Dortmund being closed now, and him not wanting to go to Napoli - this probably wont happen.

Remember this post, Cavani will be officially a Chelsea player july 2nd.

Bookmark this page, happy to have a bet with anyone on this.

In contrast to those arrogant posters who insist that the 'truth' is what they (or their eyes) say it is, I keep expecting better from you! But I keep being disappointed.

Like Brennan (MEN) and viewfromablue, you repeatedly post statistics involving 'appearances' and 'goals'. Yet you know perfectly well that an 'appearance' may amount to 1 minute or 90 minutes. [In the 2011-12 premier league season, 10 of Dzeko's appearances involved fewer minutes in total than Balotelli spent on the field before being sent off at Arsenal.] I am sure that you also know perfectly well that it has become standard amongst serious analysts to cite minutes per goal.

By the way, how do you reconcile Cavani's 618 minutes per assist with your earlier claims about how much he offers other than just scoring goals?

As to my post a few days ago on the Dzeko thread (to which you "replied", to use a euphemism), how do you explain the fact that Tevez managed just 2 AWAY goals all season - when every one knows that he always gives 100%? How do you explain the fact that Dzeko scored so many more goals in the first half than Tevez and so many more goals that 'mattered'?
