"Cedric" Boyata

This. We can not expect our 3rd/4th Choice Center half to be world-class, that type of player would not accept that role. But a young player, from our own academy, would accept that role for 2-3 years. Increasing the continuity of the center-halves, and allowing us to see what our youth players are made of. Let Boyata play alongside Kompany or even Nastasic against a Hull City, a Crystal Palace, Southampton, League Cup games, early FA Cup games. Thats when you need your 3rd/4th choice center half, not in a Champions League match.

yep, people here and on twitter talks a lot about giving academy players a chance, well MP is doing so.
There is always a risk when a top side like city plays an academy player (and more so if we consider that city academy isn't La Masia academy yet)
But if like Soriano and Txiki said and City want 4 or 5 academy playing in the first team,in the next few years, you have to start with what you have now, and what city have in their academy now is players like Boyata.
(and of course it was a big mistake they let Denis Suarez's contract run out, they can't let that happen again)

He always looks a bit uneasy with himself to me,lacking character and confidence and somewhat introverted.
I reckon if the staff can give him more self belief and bring him out of his shell he could be the player we were hoping he'd be.
Yes, his problem is not about ability but more of mentality imo.

His mentality and temperament were there for all to see on his 1st team debut, if its floundered due to his loan experiences then i hope we bring it back but this hasn't been a long term weakness of his.

Another reason why we might not sign another player this transfer window. Good on Boyata, earn your spurs.

True.

More a case of losing his way imo,the Bolton move in particular was a disater.
Also shite ref decisions like the yellow card against Bayern wont help with the confidence aspect either.

We won the league with Savic being our 4th defender, and I can't see Boyata doing as badly as him. I think another centre-back may be needed for a fully capable Champions League squad though. I think Boyata just needs a vote of confidence and a bit of good fortune to get back to the player we'd hoped he'd be, and I have confidence in Pellegrini's ability to do so.

He'll be fourth or fifth choice CB at best. Komps and Nasty are the obvious first choice pairing, then you've got Lescott and then Micah can fill in in the middle. You've also got Garcia (please God, no!) who could stand in there. Can't see Boyata seeing much match action.
I dont think Mica will play many games in the middle if playing two games a week I think he will alternate at right back with Zaba.

Called up by Belgium for their next World Cup qualifier despite not even being able to get on our bench.
