Re: Central midfielder in January !!
If we are serious about competing for four trophies this season then we need a better sqaud in my opinion. We are short at right back, centre midfield and in attack.
In midfield we don't have an adequate backup for Fernandinho. Garcia isn't as dynamic, and although he played OK against Palace, he did slow the play down, and after all it was Palace, who weren't a very good side at all. Then there is Rodwell who is usually either injured or Pellegrini rates Garcia more highly. Again this leaves us short in centre midfield.
At right back Micah is never fit for long enough to challenge Zaba, and when Zaba gets injured then we have to play Boyata who just can't make the forward runs we need in our play to create the goal scoring opportunities.
Up front we have two strikers who are superb and then Dzeko who just isn't best suited to the Premier League. Even though Dzeko scores goals this is becasue of the amount of chances we can create, but he doesn't complement our team. Then there is Jovetic who like Richards and Rodwell is just taking up space in the treatment room. With three players almost always injured whenever they play 10 minutes a piece and Garcia, Lescott and Boyata not being good enough as backups we are short in numbers in our first team squad, If we add Dzeko to this list too then there is plenty of room for improvement. We don't need stellar names, we just need able backups who can challenge the established first teamers and create competition for places.
Who'd have thought Zabaleta or Negredo would become fan favourites and even overshadow the stars in our squad. Both were bought for relatively low fees and aren't the top earners at the club and yet both are the first names on the teamsheet in their respective positions. If we can buy another central midfielder and maybe centre back then we could give Barca a decent game in Europe and hopefully win a domestic treble at least. If we beat Barca then who knows how far we can go in Europe, although Athletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are still the strongest teams left in the Champions League for me.
I don't agree with Pellegrini that the squad is complete and think this is just to deter clubs from hanging on for bigger fees if City come calling in January. We still aren't the finished article, although when we are then our trophy haul could be very exciting.
