Centre-back

Seems quiet on this front. Maybe we're not doing anything at all.

I'd imagine Lescott will partner Kompany with Garcia (gulp) to be backup should one of them get injured until Nasty is fit again. Risky but it's going to be tough to find a decent defender who is willing to sit on the bench once Nasty is fit again.

I still think we need a quality Cb. I hope our market is not over, cos if we are really going to compete hard on all fronts 3 CBs is pretty thin.

We have won the League with Kompany and Lescott, so why can't we do the same again ?

Nasty is injured, OK ....Lescott can take care of his place for few weeks.

I was told by two Liverpool fans last night that were are interested in Skrtel again!

Don't know how true that is.

Wasn't it Agger we were interested in previously? Skrtel would be a really solid signing though, very low risk and would definitely do a job for us. Would he choose us over a guaranteed start for Rafa at Napoli though?

Yea we tried to sign Agger last year. I don't see Skertel as viable option. He's not a good "footballer" and that seems to be important to the club. He wants to leave Liverpool because he's not seen as a starter. So why would he come to us to be a backup? More than that. If he can't get into thier line-up, over 87 year old Carrigher, what's the chances he's good enough to help us? I think he's overrated and it seems Rogers feels the same.

Huge mistake if we don't buy quality here. Maybe get away with it in the Prem but not in Europe as we saw against Munich.

Pellergrini has had the opportunity to see a typical Garcia centre back display pre season. If he trusts him to play there again after such an obvious warning, I will question his competence as manager. If both Richards & Boyata are injured as well as Lescott & Nastasic, & Rodwell has broken down again, then he picks Garcia, I might forgive him.

Surely we've learnt if you make mistakes in Europe you get punished and there's such fine margins that drawing or losing the first game puts you in real difficulty trying to qualify for the knock out stage.

Would love for us to go back in for Agger. Less point signing Skrtel; for the way we're going to play Agger would be the better choice all day long.

Given Kompany's propensity to suddenly sit down in the middle of the pitch clutching his calf, 3 or 4 times a season, I'd regard not buying another centre half as a huge (and unnecessary) gamble. Richards has the pace, but not the guile or positional sense, to play there, whilst a Garcia/Lescott combo would get torn apart by all bar the very worst teams in the Premiership, never mind Europe. With Nasty out for 6 weeks, and you can usually double the length of the projected absence once Dr Nick Riviera and the rest of the City medical team get involved, half decent, and preferably mobile, cover is a must for me

I agree but dont think Agger would be interested in coming to us. He had "YNWA" tattooed on his knuckles last year when we were expressing interest. Barca might have the right attraction for him though?
