Cesc Fabregas signs for Chelsea (page 190)

Re: Cesc Fabregas

I was keen on this last night but in the cold light of day, Thinking about it the club will have had a plan since January for this window and probably a few ideas for the next couple of windows, maybe a Pogba or Barkley to replace Yaya in future windows who knows ? I think it would take a huge player becoming available to blow them off course, especially with FFP restrictions this window. or Yaya insisting on a move.
I dont think Yaya will push it, and I don't think Fabregas , while a great player would improve our first choice midfield by enough to change our plans, when other areas need strenghtening.

I am staggered people are turning their noses up at him.

Agree ... I also find it baffling that people don't see that was our weakest area in the CL. We never ever got a grip of the games against Barca and Bayern in midfield. Midifield is where we were dominated. It's where we require something different to compliment the physical presence of Fernando and Fernandinho.

Also ... although Toure has been a toure de force for us in the PL ... he's done sweet fuck all in the CL. Was incredibly poor in the big games against Barca and Bayern at home.

Was going to post this before but thought i may have exceeded my post limit in this thread for one day

Said earlier in the yaya thread that a decent midfield just plays round him because he doesn't have the mobility to beat a triangle

We are hamstrung in midfield because of Yaya's lack of movement and mobility, the irony is that its his pace and strength when running at defenders that is probably his biggest asset

I get the feeling there's a lot of people who expect Fernando to be something more than he actually is, which is a fantastic holding midfield player but nothing more. We're not going to win the CL by having a better shield in front of the back four. We're going to win it by being technically better in midfield and at keeping the ball in the opposition half and being able to pass and move around teams like Madrid.

Sorry to make a childish and thread-derailing point, but neutrals calling fabregas 'cesc' irritates me far more than it should.
Why? I'm struggling to remember a time when he wasn't referred to as Cesc, by either the media or football fans generally. I didn't even know his ''proper'' name; I thought it was Francesco. Googled it to find out it's actually Francesc.

It's the familiar use of "cesc" on its own which has always irritated me. Like he's some kind of tv chef or something who only needs one name.

Like all things which get under a man's skin, I can't properly explain it.

Maybe opposition fans feel the same about Ya Ya, because he's he only other footballer I can think of who gets this over-familiarity/ elevation to single-name cult status. I reckon the Beatles started it.

I suspect that much of it is because it is quicker to write than any affectation, Ferdinand would often be called Rio and that was certainly nothing to do with a love of the man.

I certainly didn't, and don't call him 'Rio'!!!

Don't think they expect Fernando to be something he's not. It's more that it will release Fernandinho to play the more attacking role he played at Shaktar either as part of a 3 with Toure or as instead of Toure in the system we played last season.

I don't see it as a case of selling Yaya to bring in Fabregas, I don't see why we couldn't have both

If we bring in Fernando and Fabregas there is no real need for Milner, Garcia or Rodwell to be around any longer

Selling those 3 would generate about 25 million, plus the sale of Richards, that would pretty much pay for Fabregas

I've had PM's and DM's telling me

1. He has agreed to come but no deal with Barca, yet.

2. Barca have agreed a fee but no personal talks done yet.

3. Fee and personal terms all agreed just waiting for post WC announcement.

4. Its all paper talk and City aren't remotely interested.

And this is just one player and its only the 2nd of June.

Its gonna be fun, fun, fun.
Why do you get all the PMs and DMs? Is that an added benefit of Superbia Membership?

Neither do I ... we need Yaya and Fabregas for the CL. If Toure were to be sold he'd have to be replaced with another world class player.
