Cesc Fabregas signs for Chelsea (page 190)

Re: Cesc Fabregas

London is where he lived for quite a while so I'd expect he would prefer there. But is Mourinho someone he'd like to work with? The shine is wearing off Mourinho but i think players still see him as a winner. I think he'll go to Chelsea.

I am disappointed that Kolorov, Milner and Rodwell are on their way.

I struggle to think of affordable replacements. This us where FFFP have screwed us. Cants.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea to go all guns blazing for Di Maria and/or Griezmann imo.

Oscar is their man in CAM and Schurlle after that. Fabregas isn't needed and I see it as a linked name. Chelsea are light in 4 areas, LB with Cole going, CB with Terry getting on and Luiz sold, they need a wide player to compete with Hazard and Willian and they need a striker.

So too assume the following
Shaw,
Mangala/Garay/Godin/Benatia and they have Zouma,
Di Maria/Griezmann
Costa

Shaw £30, Costa £40m + 2 others whhich would cost £50m or more. Fabregas is a Mata type of player, he's more direct but basically the same kinda player. Jose has Oscar to do this and he has Schurlle, he needs a box to box more than Fabregas, a Vidal or Khedira is more likely to be signed, the later I have been told they wanted last year so wouldn't shock me if they go again now.

IMO, and it is just that, opinion. United are the rival. They would sell Kagawa and have Fabregas with Carrick in a midfield two with Mata in front imo. Liverpool I doubt, they are after Lallana and using Fabregas as a foil, besides where are they finding £150-200k pw from to pay his wages? Lallana is about £60-90k, they'd be more inclined to go that route imo.

Finally, Arsenal. Midfield is the exact area they do not need strengthening. Wide players, forwards, rb and a holding mid they need. I can't see them being in for Fabregas unless they do something bold and cash in on Ozil possibly which I can't see. Fabregas is unfortunate that the move is this year and not last year. Prior to purchases of Mata and Ozil and even prior to City ffp ruling, he'd have had three solid bidders and therefore gets the best deal for himself. Regardless of his obvious talent, he is vying for a move to clubs that don't really need him, which is a testament to the strength of the top clubs. Even Spurs are stacked in midfield now!

Many are addressing my post quite literally, where does it elaborate on what else City and the manager would do to address your valid concerns?

'Replacing Milner' was supposed to demonstrate where City are attempting to balance the transfer spending cap this summer, same with Rodwell.

Same can be evidenced with Kolarov and Benatia, unless people believe they are also like-for-like replacements, considering their different positions.

Nothing has changed on Fabregas, we have a strong interest.

I understand the club are wary of revealing ourselves to the market for all our possibles, because of the transfer cap, and the problems it would cause us in terms of moving players on.

The uncertainty with Yaya may not help matters.

The only debate to be had is whether posters believe we are interested?
i believe were deffo interested suppose its weather fabregas is happy to come to us which would be easier with our spanish players or is london the place he really wants

My personal opinion is that him moving to Chelsea would be a great surprise.

The dots don't seem to join?

He supposedly has great affection for Arsenal, so to undo all that goodwill by moving to a main rival in the city, would be a ballsy move for someone like him.

There are plenty of examples down the years of players not giving a toss, Ashley Cole, springs to mind, but Arsenal only allowed Fabregas to leave because of his desire to go 'home'.

He can compete and get wedged at various clubs. If London is the crucial factor, then Arsenal are missing an open goal and City can do nothing, anyways.

For the record, and perhaps a little example of some journos over-egging it.

The reports state Fabregas is the replacement for Frank Lampard, in light of his announcement yesterday that he was leaving.

That can't be true, as Chelsea still offered Lampard terms to stay, and the timeline is out of whack.

Fabregas arrived back in London last weekend.

The timing could have been just right though? Chelsea talk to Fabregas and get agreement in principle, Chelsea then offer Lampard terms which he finds unacceptable and rejects, Lampard signs for NY, Chelsea look to conclude Fabregas deal. Just a thought.

I don't get the logic of saying Cesc in if Yaya out ( How was that Dids D' ).

They are very different players and its far from like for like.

It's not like for like, but I don't think there is a like for like replacement for Yaya, whenever he is replaced it will require some adjustment in how we play. Don't know what will happen but I don't think you can rule out Cesc in Yaya out on that basis.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

Has it been clarified yet whether out transfer limit is £49m on the headline value of the players or book value?

Obviously if it's the actual price then buying Benatia, Sagna, Fernando, caballero and fabregas looks like £75m or so which means recouping £26m from the likes of Milner, Richards, Guidetti, Sinclair maybe Garcia.

That's before the futures of Nasri, Dzeko and Kolarov are sorted as they've all 1 year left. Not to mention Yaya's situation. Looks like this summer is going to be very complicated and a logistical mess trying to balance the squad in terms of personnel and the UEFA limits.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea's name is being used by Darren Dein to put pressure on both City and Arsenal. Absolutely no way will Mourinho and Chelsea sign Fabregas. This will come down to Arsenal ... if they don't move he's ours. IF they do he'll go there. My money is comfortably still on him ending up at City. Just don't see Txiki letting this one pass ...

The replacement for Lampard line is bullshit. Oscar is the replacement as well as Schurlle. They could even put Hazard in the middle and have him as a goal scoring midfielder/second striker.

Agree totally about not wanting to sour with Arsenal. The fact he has a box at Arsenal and remains a cult figure there means he would turn down that move, finally Barca players detest Jose and Fabregas is on record for the following.

Not really, bud.

Rodwell never plays, Milner hardly plays and Kolarov could be the key to getting Benatia for £10m less than Roma are holding out for.

Those three bring in £25m.

Fernando is already filling any void in midfield.

Kolarov and £15m would be enough for Benatia.

Which means we have only spent £27m of our £49m cap.

We'd still have around £30m to spend on Fabregas.

Sagna - free

Benatia - £15m plus Kolarov

Fernando - £12m

Fabregas - £30m

That puts us about £8m over the cap.

But that's before further sales of players such as Richards, Sinclair and maybe £2.5m we get for Barry if he joins Everton.

It would be tight, but a back-up goalkeeper and a left back (Ashley Cole on a free, perhaps?) would see us squeak?

We don't need much.

It'd make a lot of sense to sell Ozil for 30m and buy Fabregas at about the same. A 10m loss would be well worth the upgrade.

Who'd buy Ozil then? Surely someone would?

Lampard has had those terms on the table for weeks.

The same claims are Chelsea laid on a private jet, which is simply not true. It was laid on by sponsors for an advert he was filming.
