Re: Cesc Fabregas

Well the Yaya fuss has started to die down a bit and personally I would like to see Yaya at the club next season. By adding Fabregas we would have a player who can to some extent fill in for Yaya, Nasri or Silva and it will be exremely positive from a clubs point of view that if Yaya kicks off again we are not wondering how we will replace him. It adds competion to places and I see him more replacing Rodwell than anyone else, homegrown for homegrown. If Milner decides to leave we have a ready replacement in Lopes. In terms of dosh

Fabregas - 30m
Fernando - 12m
Sagna - Free
Carabello - 4-5m
Benatia - 32m

Total cost 79m, it means we will have to raise about 30m in sales to accomodate the above and stay within the spending limits. Richards 5m, Guidetti 7m, Garcia/Nasty/Milner might make up the numbers.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

If he wants to come back there's only a few clubs he'd consider:

Arsenal - wenger says he isn't interested

Utd - he'd get straight in the team but with no CL and being in transition it'd be a very risky move for him

Chelsea - chocker with midfielders and would need to sell first to accommodate him

Liverpool - would walk into the team. CL football and a good attack minded side. However can they afford the 30m on top of 25 for lallana, 15 for Moreno and 5 for lambert? That'd be 75m spent.

Us - he'd basically take yaya's vacated spot and be among the 1st names on the sheet. CL football. Champions twice in 3 seasons. Double winners. He'd suit our style to a tee. Plenty of Spanish international team mates. Txixi loves him. Wouldn't actually cost us anything as yaya will fetch a similar fee.

If we're not vigorously pursuing this kid I'd be extremely surprised and bemused.

I think out if those options he'd be a loon to choose anyone but us.

And Sinclair for £3m.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

If Yaya went which I don't really feel is on the cards then Cesc really is a no brainer.

I can't believe the fee is only £30M and I can't believe Barca aren't building their future around him instead of moving Xavi or Iniesta on.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

The valuations for Richards and Guidetti aren't my valuations but quotes from the press. :-)

Whenever he has played for Barca is Xavi's role he has looked horrible, he is too attacking and weak defensively to play that role properly. They should have sold Fabregas last summer instead of Thiago.

I don't really see him as a replacement for Yaya if i'm honest. I said earlier in the thread that I see him more as a replacement for Rodwell ... (who I expect will go this summer). We need minimum 3 top drawer central midfield players if we want to be capable of challenging both in the CL and in the PL. We were short in the season just gone and IMO that's why we struggled during the period we had CL knock out games, cup games, and league game all in the same congested period.

I also think Cesc is versatile enough that he can play not just in CM but across our AM positions too which would provide much needed cover for Silva in particular.

I'm surprised at the number of people who are seemingly resistant to the transfer. I would expect it's a no brainer for Txiki and Pellegrini. I think he's going to end up a City player now.

I agree mate, I'd be astonished if we weren't right in the race for him.

As I said earlier, if we signed Fab, Fernando, Sagna and a centre half at circa £30mil then we'd only need to be generating approx £20mil in sales, easily done. If we then do end up letting Yaya go then the cash generated could be used elsewhere - maybe Barkley/Vidal/Pogba.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

I'd be trying to offload one of either Negredo or Dezko to get Fabregas. Him, Yaya and Silva are all capable of playing as a number 10, so if we could get him in then we really wouldn't need 4 strikers, so if we could almost fund the whole deal by offloading one of them then it seems like a no brainer to me. If we could get anything like £20-25m for one of our strikers, then we'd only need another £5-10m to fund the deal

This, they also had to move Iniesta to the left to accommodate Fabregas in his best position and Iniesta is better in the central position. It's no surprise that Barca fans would sell him because they have never really needed him in the first place. I'd rather we went for Pogba to replace Yaya because if it's between Fabregas and Silva for the no.10 role it's Silva hands down.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

he's a quality player but do we really need him? tolmie mentioned earlier that we don't necessarily have to sell to buy him but I can't see it myself

Re: Cesc Fabregas

If we signed Fabregas but kept Toure and signed Fernando, wouldn't they be wondering how many games they'll be playing? Not to mention the likes of the youth players who'll think it's completely pointless sticking around with no prospect whatsoever of getting a game apart from a place on the bench in a capital one game against Plymouth.

I've already booked hotels for Plymouth away.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

Pellegrini in his interview specifically mentioned rotation for the players this season. Said it before and will say it again whoever arrives and the current players will have to take rests and can't be expected to play every game like Zab, Yaya, Kompany (when he was fit) Silva, Nasri, etc did last season. Seemed to me last season rotation only happened to the fringe players and when players injured or suspended. If we really want to push for the four competitions we will have to play without the silvas, aguero and Yaya even if they are fit to keep them in good nick till the prizes are handed out.

Re: Cesc Fabregas

I don't know where this £30m figure has come from, because why would Barcelona sell him for that when his buyout is about 200m euros?

We had no chance to rest players last season as we were playing catch up, and had a lot of injuries.

Squad size is not going to increase, but ideally we are going to look to rotate players. Would be easier to do if we have a bit more quality in depth in midfield

Re: Cesc Fabregas

Dear jesus, I just had a Dipper fan tell me Fabregas wouldn't be able to break into their team ahead of Jordan Henderson.

What a bunch of fucking idiots.
