Am14 (Spanish Sports Site) claiming Cesc is off to Manchester City too, puzzling. I stand by what I was told though.

City giving the UK journalists fuck all in terms of info.......he could be signed and they would be the last to know :)

I still think we would be interested but only if we could make the funds to buy him.

Most of that 50m cap will be spent on Fernando and a defender.

The northern press pack are revealing the same info, they are usually briefed by City.

It never made any sense to me and I stand by what I said - Fabregas would be a luxury signing. I'm happy with just Fernando added for our midfield and focus on our defence.

It is looking unlikely, but I'd prefer Fabregas in midfield to a centre-back. We have Nasty and Rekik to come into contention and Demichelis improved in the 2nd half of the season.

So you'd have 4 top class central midfielders but only 1 definite top class central defender (Demichelis has been great, but he's really old now and there are no guarantees he'll hold his level next season)? We have always seemed heavy in some departments, weaker in others, an unbalanced squad. And a bona fide top-of-the-line central defender will benefit us so much more than yet another midfield option (remember, we're already signing Fernando, one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe). Kompany/top defender/Demichelis/Nastasic would be an outstanding balance and I'm convinced that is what the club sees too, hence the pursuits of prolific defenders.

FWIW I think Ladyman and Taylor and the Mail and the Guardian have become incredibly unreliable when it comes to City info since last summer. Ladyman in particular is a fucking mug and a rag to boot. If either of them had been briefed either on or off the record that City weren't in for Fabregas they'd be running "exclusive" stories on it rather than tweeting that they'd "heard" something.

Nobody knows mate in my opinion, there are conflicting reports from everywhere.

I refuse to believe we are not interested but I only see us buying him if we know we can guarantee to make funds for him from elsewhere because most of our current 50m cap will be spent on Fernando and a central dfender.
