The 2 journo's in question dont exactly have a hot line to the City decision makers.

Lets not forget that Mr Ladyman was touted as an FFP expert who recently said he couldnt understand why City never sold out their games.

That's a comment from a man with bias, but he wouldn't let his dislike overcome his reputation.

As you suggest though, City could have changed tack

The theory that Barca are trying to auction Fabregas off, also sounds reasonable.

So you'd have 4 top class central midfielders but only 1 definite top class central defender (Demichelis has been great, but he's really old now and there are no guarantees he'll hold his level next season)? We have always seemed heavy in some departments, weaker in others, an unbalanced squad. And a bona fide top-of-the-line central defender will benefit us so much more than yet another midfield option (remember, we're already signing Fernando, one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe). Kompany/top defender/Demichelis/Nastasic would be an outstanding balance and I'm convinced that is what the club sees too, hence the pursuits of prolific defenders.

I'm not sure.

It doesn't look like the two defenders we targeted are available. And our defence is not as weak as some think. Hart, Kompany, nasty all missed a lot of games. And Rekik has the age and experience now. Our 1st choice midfield is brilliant, but no depth. I think if we signed Fabregas, we'd have an awesome array of attacking talent in midfield and attack that would mean that we'd be even stronger domestically but we might get caught out one if Nastasic etc get caught one on one with a Messi etc

I am telling you Benatia deal is still very much live and kicking...

The Roma President was talking ridiculous money but I suppose he would if he was willing to sell

Looking at the scarcity of top class central defenders, I think it's a near certainty that City, Utd and Liverpool are all going to go head to head for the one or two defenders available

I was told last window that City were in for Vermaelen but nothing seems to have been mentioned at all.

Also there must come a point when we are going to trust our young players. Surely Rekik's time has come

Not convinced that central defence is such a priority. if I knew whether nastasic's knee problem had been resolved it would help.

He's a muppet. The sport story says that Darren Dein met with Arsenal and with City yesterday and that City's proposal was the one they can't turn down.

If we don't go in for Fabregas and Yaya returns from Brazil to say he wants out, that's one very big potential replacement missed.

So, does this force our hand on what to do with Yaya, if we don't already know how that situation will end up?
