CFG | Academy | EDS in & out season 2021/22

I can't see how Delap will make it here because Guardiola has no faith in youth. He'll probably end up on loan and then we'll accept a paltry 11M like we did for Harrison.
We don't know how he'll turn out to be in a couple years, needs to up a few levels. Also, no club winning silverware has 'faith in youth' because it can only carry you so far. Quality and experience wins you titles. We have Foden and maybe another couple might come through the ranks if good enough, Chelsea have Mount and Reece James, the other two red shite have a couple each. If you suddenly expect kids to be given gametime just so fans believe there's trust in youth that's just silly. You have to be crazy good to start in these teams

You are Alan Hanson and I claim my £5.

Foden is the only homegrown academy player that's made it since our academy opened in late 2013. That's pretty piss poor i think.

That's because with the sole exception of Sancho, there isn't a single player who was actually good enough. Foden on the other hand made the break through because he is good enough, and if Delap is he'll get his chance. If he isn't, like you said he'll get sold.

I don't think you we can go into the season relying on Delap, and I don't think there's a crystal ball that we can chart his development in. We just have to wait and see.

Loads have 'made it' just not with us. In the mean time we have sold nearly 180m worth of talent which has helped pay for the likes of Diaz, Mahrez etc. Far from piss poor..

OMG what did you expect over night success ? sorry youth football does not work like that
unless your utd and sign all the young 16 years olds and say they are home grown

manchester city will start to bear fruit from the youth system and this season 2 or 3 are ready for the next level and put into the first team squad. cole palmer looks a player

Isn’t the feeling that Delap, Palmer and Lavia have bigger chances than any academy player since Foden?

We won't know how good they are without them getting on the pitch in meaningful games. Ok, some of our youngsters are now getting in the bench but not getting any(or enough) time to shine. There's been plenty of games we've been at least two goals ahead but Guardiola has not brought any kids on. Delap scored on his debut and been cast aside and not played since. The Burton cup game, Pep played Doyle and T-HB and (iirc) not played them since either. It's only a matter of time before they get disillusioned and want out of the club if they cannot break through.

No i don't expect overnight success but the academy (like i say) has been open going on 8 years! The rags have had success by successfully integrating youth into the first team and there's no excuses not to give our best kids a chance IMO.
