Champions League Draw - 29th August '24 | Opponents (pg69) | Fixtures (pg128)

How do they seed the teams? Is it based on past champions league successes or something? But then some of those top seeds haven't done much at all.

The dippers are a top seed, yet they weren't in champions league in this past season and only finished third.
Where you finish in your domestic league has no bearing on the seedings - all down to UEFA coefficients. The dippers progress deep in European competition pretty much every season - not being in the CL last season didn’t hurt their coefficient that much as they earned points by reaching the Europa QF.

With one match to play (CL Final) the new format champions league is beginning to take shape.

We will be in the highest seeded pot of nine teams along with Bayern, Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool. Inter Milan, Dortmund, Leipzig and Barcelona.

Under the new format we will play two of those teams along with two seeded 10 to 18. two seeded 19 to 27 and two seeded 28 to 36.

As England has four qualified teams we can also play one of the other three Arsenal, Liverpool or Aston Villa.

You play eight league matches four at home and four away against eight different teams.

With our luck we will probably end up with Bayern, Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid and Arsenal plus four others.

Points are awarded as at present and the top eight teams out of the 36 go through to the knock out stages.

Teams placed 9th to 16th play the teams placed 17th to 24th on a two legged system with the higher ranked teams playing the return leg at home. The winners then play one of the already qualified teams home and away in the first knock out round.

This adds an extra two matches to the already insane schedule, no wonder players are contemplating going on strike.
So we can be drawn against other English teams in the group stage?

It's based on coefficient over the last 5 years. They won it in 2019 so that's included.
Actually it’s not. The current five year rankings that will be used for next season’s seedings begin from the 2019-20 season.
But the sentiment of what you’re saying is spot on. Dippers reaching the final in 2022 plus consistently reaching the later knockout stages (including last season’s Europa League) is more than enough to make them a top seed.

I prefer to call it the 'Chumps League'. Bent corrupt shite, give me the Premier League Trophy every day of the week.
You have UEFA and FIFA expanding all their competitions on the pretext of spreading the game. they should just cut out all the bullshit and admit they are in it for the money.

Personally I hope the players get together and stick two fingers up to both organizations and say enough is enough we are going on strike.
