Amazed that anyone can be even remotely negative after last night. We've just beat Bayern 4-1 on aggregate to get to our third semi-final in a row. It's immense. I think people who were a little shaken by Bayern creating chances were severely downplaying their quality subconsciously. They're an immensely talented side, used to winning too. The tone of this game was set way before kick-off. We were 3-0 up. They were always going to come out intensely, knowing that they had to go for it while trying to get the home crowd behind them.
They were always going to create some good chances. The fact that we kept it down to maybe two big chances, then a bunch of half ones, is really impressive all things considered. I know we want to see City come out attack sides, but it was a smart decision. Pep likely knew that the players would naturally feel like they had something to protect, while at the same time expecting a Bayern onslaught, so he just let them follow those instincts and soak up the pressure while knowing that we now have the quality to counter them - which we did! We could have had a couple of goals too.
It's no different to how PSG had a great half against us once, but we still turned the tide. Or how Liverpool scared us at times during the title races, especially in that epic 2-1 win at the Etihad. Great teams with something to prove just will create chances. It's life. The most important thing is we have the quality to defend well and keep ourselves organised, and then punish them at the other end. It was an immensely focused performance against an excellent side. Yeah, they created chances, but im not sure any side in the world could have prevented that. Personally im absolutely buzzing. It was stoic, tough, pragmatic, and the exact opposite of the naivety we've sometimes shown in this competition.
