For me, Pep is the best manager in the world over the course of a season. The way he improves players, gets them all drilled into the way we play so he can interchange, rotate and manage suspensions, injuries - and egos! - throughout the season? Remarkable. The best there is.
But for a one-off game that you just must win? He's a bit rubbish actually. His stats in finals are still good so presumably he wasn't always meh but now, he is.
Yesterday is far from a one off, isn't it. It was actually same old, same old. I don't know why we are really so surprised. He's fucked it up for the past 10 seasons, including his 3 fuck ups in the semi finals with Bayern.
People say the players didn't turn up last night. Well yes true. But why? Because (a) every time we pressed forward and lost the ball we looked like conceding with Chelsea waltzing past our non-existant midfield. We went from a well drilled machine to rabbits in headlights.
And (b) players were hardly brimming with confidence having just been stuffed - needlessly stuffed - by Chelsea twice in the past 4 weeks. Hardly perfect mental preparation.
