Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

Irrespective of pep a lot of our big game players just didn’t show up last night. Mahrez was quiet, gundogan didn’t influence the game and was disappointing stones was as bad as I’ve ever seen him. We where so nervous you could see when the shitty anthem was playing our players all fidgeting Chelsea players all still and calm. We just want it too bad and playing they way we do I just don’t see us winning this competition

We face 10 men behind the ball nearly every week, you’d think we’d have figured it out. Last night was the same, conceding 1 shouldn’t have made any difference - scoring is the problem
It wasn’t the same, most teams sit back win the ball and hoof it forward to a big man which is very easy to defend against. Chelsea actually have the quality and pace to pass through our press and hurt us. Chelsea sitting deep and Burnley sitting deep are completely different

Tuchel Ole and Klopp , all 3 hit us on the counter and have Pep's measure.

He needs to get a grip of counter attacking teams and quickly.

Pep’s response is to be even more controlled in possession in these games. If we keep the ball well enough, we prevent the opportunity to counter attack.

Sadly, that means taking less risks and playing it safe all of the time. If a well drilled side like Chelsea don’t make any mistakes, we’re fucked.

When you've made a total fool of yourself revert to calling someone a red or a rag.
Your in a minority of one in thinking tonight's shit show wasn't on Pep and his non selection of a recognised defensive midfielder.
Phil Jones onsie, how old are you, you fucking div.
Listen I apologise for last night, not on.
Beer and defeat not a good mix.

Agree I am not happy with what has happened to Sergio this season he deserved better
Same for VK he spent a lot of his last season sitting on the bench, Pep just doesn't trust players who could get injured, they fuck with his OCD planning.

I still think it is the reason VK left, his secret talks with Anderlecht owner will have been in the time period he wasn't getting picked and Pep wasn't being overly nice in interviews about him imo either when talking about injuries etc

Totally bemused with the line up but thought give it a go.

It totally backfired.

Foden, Mahrez, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Bernardo were all ineffective.

When has that ever happened.

Sterling, had that chance where Ederson played him in. First touch terrible and chance was gone.

A huge disappointment and missed opportunity. Chelsea are not that good but they didn't have to be last night. We didn't force a bloody save from their keeper, how the hell do you expect to win a match!

For me, Pep is the best manager in the world over the course of a season. The way he improves players, gets them all drilled into the way we play so he can interchange, rotate and manage suspensions, injuries - and egos! - throughout the season? Remarkable. The best there is.

But for a one-off game that you just must win? He's a bit rubbish actually. His stats in finals are still good so presumably he wasn't always meh but now, he is.

Yesterday is far from a one off, isn't it. It was actually same old, same old. I don't know why we are really so surprised. He's fucked it up for the past 10 seasons, including his 3 fuck ups in the semi finals with Bayern.

People say the players didn't turn up last night. Well yes true. But why? Because (a) every time we pressed forward and lost the ball we looked like conceding with Chelsea waltzing past our non-existant midfield. We went from a well drilled machine to rabbits in headlights.

And (b) players were hardly brimming with confidence having just been stuffed - needlessly stuffed - by Chelsea twice in the past 4 weeks. Hardly perfect mental preparation.
