There’s an old country expression that you dance with who brung ya. Instead we dropped her off at the corner and tossed cab fare at her feet.
Absolutely spot on. And although most can't bring themselves to admit it, getting through Chelsea's defence was always going to be the biggest challenge tonight and I though the tactics might just work. There was one shot on target between them winning or extra time, I rate Tuchel and they will probably be stronger challengers for next season than most people give them credit for.No offence Marvin, as you're generally an OK poster if not massively pessimistic, but tonight you've said you've had enough of Pep and that he needs to go as if not winning the Champions League is the be all and end all.
The Champions League is an utter pile of over hyped, cheaty, divey shite and if you don't recognise that this is the best football you will ever see then you are in for some of the most serious decades of disappointment you will ever see.
Would you rather win the UCL once a decade or 3 titles in 4 years mate?He is flawed because this isn't the first time he has done this in big one off games. I could half understand where he was coming from in the Lyon game because then City had a weak defence but tonight was just suicidal and it cost us the game.
Sometimes he plays like he's the best player in the world. . . .they why play him? he's not bigger than this club, sometimes he plays like he is
Gundogun not good enough to start for city. Absolutely garbage player
Same here, funny how so many Rags who claim we just don't matter to them can't stop texting tonight.Very few teams win it first time around. This was a huge step forward for the club versus our previous best when Pellegrini never laid a glove on Real Madrid. It’s all part of the process.
As an aside, fireworks around my neck of the woods. Plenty of chat gardens with Liverpool flags on poles. We get under their skin. We go again.
It’s maybe where a no9 will help
The Champions League has always been a strange competition to win. It is a lottery. Pep didn't win this draw, but has still a few tickets left
Totally agree, no argument if he played ferna for sterling and played same formation , then fair do’sIf he'd have played something like the PSG team and lost, I could have taken it with good grace and moved on.
I just can't handle the fact that we handed them the game on a silver platter.
Here's why it mattered that we played properly against Chelsea in the two run up games (which a lot of people think didn't matter). It would have showed how to beat them with the players that were going to play. Imagine we play our best 11 and get stifled like tonight - it makes you think. Then you get a 2nd chance - and you tinker then. It's experience against a common opponent. If you don't think it matters then fine - it's your opinion, but you'ld rather spar someone twice before the real fight to know their strengths and weaknesses right?Couldn’t have gone worse.
I doubt the 9 change Ake, Mendy etc team would have done any worse. Pathetic effort tonight which was undermined by Pep tinkering
So the pundits saying Chelsea should be scared looking at our destruction of Everton, were just being silly?People have already forgotten how difficult this season was for us. No preseason, many injuries, covid, only one fit striker for most of the season, etc. etc We were 12th in November and won the league by 12 pts which was exceptional including those record-breaking 21 wins. Pep has won 14 from 16 finals in his career. So, it's not like he wins one-off games rarely. His record in finals is the best in the world by far.
Think the biggest problem today was that half of our players weren't in top form due to the heroic efforts from December to March. Kevin, Bernardo and Mahrez did very little today, Gundogan wasn't Gundogan from January and February, even Dias wasn't Dias. We were at our best during that record winning run. It's only normal we lost a bit of form. Even against PSG we weren't very convincing. We were a bit lucky in Paris with both goals. Even Pep and the players admitted we weren't good in the first half at the Etihad either. It's not like we were out of this world with Rodri/Ferna. We struggled against PSG with either at DM in the first halfs away and home.
Generally, it was an excellent season. Sign a great striker this summer and win the lot next season. Wish people didn't say stupid things about Pep and the players and give fans of other teams the stick to beat them with and laugh at us. Great season. Let's hope the next is great as well!
He was still infinitely better than gundogunGot the feeling it was a game where Fernandinho would've ended up with a red card early on. I'm not one to criticize refs usually but he gave us nothing.
not enough this seasonSometimes he plays like he's the best player in the world. . . .
Chelsea needed Spurs to help them hugely to finish in the top 4. The model isn't working that well.no european cups, but there model works, they were in 8th when Tommy took over and going nowhere, he's done a great job, fair play to him, PSG must be also having a long hard think tonight.
