Champions League Group Stage Round 1 - 16/17 Sept

Real Madrid and Dortmund were top drawer last night. Both very impressive, especially when you consider Dortmund have Reus and Hummels to come back.

Arsenal were poor last night, why don't they protect their defence? They have Aubameyang against Mertesacker and Arsenal leave Mertesacker totally exposed - madness! Should have bought a defensive midfielder in the summer.

Did last night show the top sides in the Premiership really aren't as good as we think? Certainly a mile away from the peak of 2008.
That Madrid attacking line up is outrageous.

Glad to see they've stuck with 4-3-3, really suited them last season.

Kroos was a great signing, definitely strengthened their centre midfield.

They actually have the potential to be even stronger than last season.

If anyone was to halt our charge, should we get I to the knockout phase, it would be these. Their fifth goal last night was blurry, the movement was that quick. Frightening.

It's great, but it's not like Barcelona and Bayern cannot field better front lines. Suarez, Messi, Neymar and Iniesta or Robben, Muller, Ribery and Lewandowski. They still lack balance in midfield and unless they change formation will be found against the better teams.

Nearly as good as the rags, actually! You obviously haven't been reading the papers; our quiet neighbours are the new Galacticos.

I have to disagree with Carragher about Alonso adding anything new to Bayern. Kroos has a superior passing range and Schweinsteiger's is not far off. The reason they did not do so last was due to tactics. Anyway awful line up from Bayern. They would have been better actually playing the two best full backs at full back and playing Rhode is midfield. He has now weakened the defence and not actually strengthened the midfield.
