Champions League Group Stage Round 1 - 16/17 Sept

Champions League football is so much better than the Premiership. Well impressed with Dortmund tonight. It was a re-run of the performances they put in against us. I don't think they can play like that week in week out. Hard to live with the intensity and power and I think that's why after that experience City went out and bought Fernando and Fernandinho and Mangala so that we can live with that kind of power and pace.

Don't be too critical of Arsenal. We might end up with the same treatment tomorrow. I'm sure Bayern are still hurting from their last game in this competition.

Would I be right in thinking that of the 13 players that Liverpool used tonight, Mario comes second in terms of Champions' League experience?

Yes, I know Kolo was on the bench, and he probably has more CL games under his belt than even Starfish, but he didn't play.

Yeah but the criticism of arsenal is that their defence is utter wank. They just got torn apart from hamann, Merson and Souness for that very reason.

Arsenal's midfield does a horrible job of protecting their defence mainly because it has no energy or quickness to cover the ground and win the ball back. Although that doesn't excuse bad defending.

I think it's clear Ozil needs to be either dropped or the team needs changing to suit him more, playing him on the wing isn't helpful going forward or defensively either.

they have no power nor strength neither. their center midfield is fucking diabolical for a supposed top side. arteta flamini wilshere? really? ramsey is a great player but he's not going to win you the hard midfield wars

As I've said about 3 of our top Prem rivals....excellent moving forward with the ball, dire at tracking back to break up attacks against them. Arsenal, Liverpool and United are all like this. In fact, the thing that has made Chelsea so strong is their defence, which provides their midfield the freedom to play. However, their midfielders also know how to get back in numbers and defend because they can play both ways and have a little bit of steel in Matic, Ramires, and Obi Mikel.

Real Madrid and Dortmund were top drawer last night. Both very impressive, especially when you consider Dortmund have Reus and Hummels to come back.

Arsenal were poor last night, why don't they protect their defence? They have Aubameyang against Mertesacker and Arsenal leave Mertesacker totally exposed - madness! Should have bought a defensive midfielder in the summer.

Did last night show the top sides in the Premiership really aren't as good as we think? Certainly a mile away from the peak of 2008.
