Champions League - seat relocations

A word of warning to fellow Blues in CB Level 2 in Cup Scheme.
Just been informed by ticket office that my normal seats are not available - because they need to make more seats available to UEFA / press etc.

The alternative seats they have offered me are not as good - but nothing they can do.

This issue will only get worse if City progress to Knockout stages as UEFA demand increases.

Which part of CBL2 are you meaning?

I am in block 228 but the Ticket Office were a bit evasive about exactly how many fans were affected. "Quite a lot" was their response.

Essentially, a UEFA inspection team has visited the stadium + picked out a couple of blocks near the halfway line in Level 2 + asked that those seats be made available to UEFA "family" / sponsors / press etc.

If you are in the cup scheme (like me) and naively thought you would be able to watch CL games from your normal seat - tough luck.

I have been offered alternative seats in CB Level 2 , but about a block further away from the halfway line.

My grouch is not so much about the re-location (not a lot City can do) but the amateurish way in which I was told late in the day with no prior warning.

Might be they didn't know themselves until quite late? I'm a bit further along anyway so hopefully won't affect me and the guys around me.

Why do people sign up to things (or don't) without checking what they are committing to??

Then complain when they realise it wasn't what they imagined?

There is only one person to blame for your only finding out at the last minute - yourself.

As it happens i'm in the cup scheme and i've had my season ticket for 24 years. If i wasn't in the cup scheme i wouldnt expect them to hold my seat. Thats why i was pointing out how it will be seen by the club. We have both been going for quite a while and a lot of things have changed since then. One of the main things as is being seen by the cup scheme is that it does give you preferential treatment. It has to be that why from a marketing point of view. How would they convince people to sign up if there was no difference. Thus why they say you have to be on it if you want to be first in line for away/semi/final tickets and if you want to guarentee your seat. It's just the reality of the situation.

I had always seen the cup scheme as a way of saving the hassle of actually buying your ticket each time, either by calling or going to the office. The club know the likes of you and I are going to buy a ticket anyway.
My reasons for not joining the CL cup scheme are as I say financial, I just couldn't guarantee the cash will be there when they want to take it, meaning bank charges and so on. I just feel I've been penalised for not allowing the club access to my bank account. I also feel the club don't give a shit about me the loyal fan, just my money.

As you say they know the likes of me and you will turn up. We aren't the ones being targeted as such. After some of last years indifferent attendances for cup games i had a feeling they would push the scheme even further. Thats why they have added more incentives to join. Some people won't turn up till the latter rounds and it's these people they are trying to sway. I can understand why you would feel they are putting money over the fans, but in any walk of life if you offer payment upfront (which you are effectively doing joining the schemes) you will be treated better than someone who may or may not choose to pay. You know you would go but the club can't know that, and as i said earlier plenty will leave it till later rounds. Having said all that i feel sorry for any fan who is effected because of financial reasons.

Yes, I know you are correct in what you are saying, but football is slightly different in that we make an emotional investment too. I just feel my 25 years means nothing to the club in this situation. Yes I could just sit elsewhere but I don't want to. I want to sit with my pals in my regular seat. If I cannot do that I may as well sit at home with a beer and watch it at home. I think my seat has been given over to a moved cup scheme member before I've even had chance to buy it, which is going to be the case for every game isn't it? Well fuck it, ITV it is. Cheers City.

Is it a bit too much to expect press and uefa types to have a hint of integrity and get tickets which aren't already allocated to loyal City fans who've been sitting in the same seats for the best part of a decade? Way too much I'm afraid
But seats aren't "already allocated" to us for any cup games. The season ticket is for league games only. The cup scheme is not an extension of the season ticket so we cant guarantee getting the same seat even though we usually can.

But having been a season ticket holder for the best part of the last 4 decades i have always been guaranteed 'My seat' for all cup games. This is a new policy and one that needs addressing !

Surely it is only new because we are new to the CL? and new because it is different areas than 'normal' but 'your seat' is only guaranteed for league games, in my 36 years I never believed that i was guaranteed a particular seat for the cup despite, most of the time, being able to obtain my usual seat.
The club have addressed it and put an announcement on the web when they were notified.

You have never been 'guaranteed' your seat for cup games, just ask the folks in the south stand

Where is this announcement on the web? The Club has my postal address, email address and phone number, i have not been informed, had i known i would be relocated, and had i known i would have second bite of the cherry at buying a new seat after Cup scheme members i would have joined the cup scheme, which i guess is there idea of a marketing tool. I think it is obvious from previous pots that people feel unfairly treated. I have said previously i realise it is out of the clubs hands having to relocate so many fans, i and obviously a lot of others just feel they could have gone about it in a more customer friendly way, the grievances on here are just the tip of the ice berg !

Another reason why the stadium needs to be bigger and better.
