I said last summer that Bayern had made a huge mistake in emplying Pep and I stick by that.
Bayern swept all aside last year playing a style of football that took Europe by storm, high pressing, high intensity, straight to the point stuff. This time last year, they showed tika-taka up for the outdated brand it is in the same way Real are tonight. With that in mind I find it impossible to believe they have ruined all the years of work by changing tactics to something totally unsuited to their players.
Given the rather poor standard of the Bundesliga at the moment, it's no surprise that things have gone well on the home front but in Europe (save one game at the Etihad), the players look very ill at ease with the style of play.
At the end of the day, if Bayern had kept on playing the football of 2012-13, I have no doubts they'd have won this competition again. They have tried to fix something that wasn't broken and it's backfired.
I'd love Pep to end up at Old Trafford. He won't betray his principles and he'll try and keep trying to get players to play his way rather than the way that suits them best. Imagine trying to get Tom Cleverley playing tika-taka, and that's exactly what he would do. He wouldn't adapt his thinking to the team's strengths.
Guardiola was always on a hiding to nothing in this job. He's demonstrating more and more with each European game that Bayern have made a completely dud appointment.
Quite frankly, he's only ever had the best set of players in the world to work with, and now he's making them look average with his outdated methods. He's the most over-rated manager in the business right now.
