Championship Thread - 2023/24

Good luck @Peaceful Terrier hope you bounce straight back. It looks another tough league next season with Brum Rotherham, Peterborough, Barnesly and of Oxford/Bolton plus could see Stockport and Wrexham mounting a challenge.

Where in your squad do you think Duff needs to improve?
I can see Charlton & Reading challenging next season too.

League 1 is a tough league to get out of if you go down with the HMS Piss The League attitude

Indeed. City didn't have that attitude in 98-99 and I remember how hard teams made it for us. Every game was literally like their final.

Thanks mate.

A lot will depend on who from this seasons playing staff are still going to be here come August I expect. I honestly think we need improvement all around, although the drop in division will maybe suit a few better than the Championship.

It will be a tough division, but I'm a little bit more optimistic of having a season where we can at least compete to a good degree. Other than the outlier season of 20/2021 when we made the play off final, every season since going up to the Premier League has been an absolute slog, and the standard of football we've played has honestly been nothing short of laughable most weeks. I don't mind relegation if it means some of the enjoyment I used to get from watching my club returns!

I wasn't sure how you'd get on after relegation, but appointing Duff I'd have you down as top 2 next season.

What's happening with Rhodes is he out of contract now? Good striker at that level but if you play 1 up front a bit of a waste.

An elderly gentleman rode into the bike space at the cafe up by Hollingworth Lake. I say, "How can yer ride that with no battery"' as I trundle in my big Dutch electric. "Pick it up!" he says. "Aha, full carbon,'"I say. "Oh, I do like that," he says. And I see that he is pointing to my City sticker. "City fan?" I enquire. "Yes, but Leicester City!" In the ensuing amicable discussion on bikes and football it turns out that he shares the same opinion we City fans have of three other nameless teams but all with a common factor of playing their home games in red. Get into a discussion with any football fan other than a Rag, a Dipper 'n a Tarquin and there is common ground, despite what the RDAHMeedya will tell of those 'mythical' neutrals.

McKenna has signed a new long term contract (4 years) at Ipswich. Sensible move; he may not be quite ready to take on a bigger job just yet. If he continues to impress for another year or two, the job offers will come, irrespective of the contract.
