Championship Thread - 2023/24

So you mean the team he's currently managing? Doubt he would even move if Barca wanted him in January. He's building a project here. Unless Pep gets sacked, Maresca is not going anywhere.
Say Poch gets the bullet at Chelsea (and the online fans' opinion of him seems to be turning, for what it's worth), and they approached Leicester looking for permission to to speak to Maresca; do you not think his head might be turned by that?

Not saying it'll happen, just throwing out a "what if" scenario.

Chelsea is a very complicated one as they have unlimited resources but terrible ownership. One of the most expensive squads in the world yet one of the least experienced squads. Lack of stability and turmoil at the club will make it an unapealing offer to Maresca, things can go wrong very easily and he wouldn't want it to damage his managerial reputation like Lampard, Potter and Poch have done.

He's already planned out a long-term project with Leicester because he's completely changed our style of play and the type of players we sign. He's formed a solid identity here and wants get Leicester back to winning trophies. The Man City job is probably the only job he would take, but I see Pep staying for a few more years at least.

An opportunity to manage at a "big 6" club, with a (presumably) sizeable increase in salary, the opportunity to work with (on paper) better players and the chance to work and live in London. That would be hard to resist. As it happens, I don't think they'd offer it to him. He's not a big enough name for Boehly, I'm guessing.

Yes, thats another point. It takes a very astute ownership to appoint someone like Maresca, but we all know Boehly has the expected football knowledge of your average American billionaire (e.g. Glazers). So the Chelsea hypothetical really falls flat. However lets say a few years down the line and decent success in the PL, the media start to label Maresca as "Pep 2.0", then I could see him moving.

I made it perfectly clear in my original post that that's all it ever was; hypothesis. Read the bottom line of my post again. Carefully.

Didn't realise that Southampton were on such a run right now; 16 games unbeaten, the second longest run in their history. If they beat Plymouth in the game that's on now, they'll be 2 pts behind 2nd placed Ipswich (albeit Ipswich are playing later on against QPR, who are in the bottom 3).
