Channel deaths | Four confirmed dead after migrant boat tragically capsizes (p 41)

Are you advocating ID cards Bob? I'm surprised ! Personally I've always been in favour as I've never had a an issue with proving my ID when required to do so. But whenever it gets proposed in the UK it gets knocked back.

Ambivalent to be honest. Yet, I carry a photo ID Driving Licence so what’s the difference I ask myself? Answer. Not a lot.

If pushed, I would probably say ‘no’, but I am persuadable, whereas before I was a hard ‘no’.

Seen someone from an aide agency say at calais camps they have food and sleeping bags taken off them and are treated like shit and people wonder why they dont want to stay in france , it is not the safe cosy place many think it is

The sad thing is that all the statue protecting, all lives matter, fat gammons will be happy. Maybe they should change it to, all white lives matter. No, they hate other Europeans too. I give in..

Good article. In essence the problem can only be managed, not solved, and requires both countries working together.

The sentiment in France ‘this is a British problem, why are we lumbered with it?’ also needs watching. Tipping that sentiment into French policy will likely make things worse.

Back to the debate in France of managing the UK border on French soil.

‘Meanwhile some candidates for French President such as Michel Barnier now saying Le Touquet agreement (whereby France polices UK external border in Calais) should be scrapped, and refugees allowed to go to the UK to apply there.’ @BBC

I was unsure as to whether we processed asylum cases in Calais, but apparently we refuse to do this. This is a mistake as processing claimants in Calais will reduce the pressure and numbers to cross.

I have to say I read your post and the words attributed to M Barnier and laughed, although it was a weary resigned laugh as it shows the naivety of so many politicians who just pander to their perceived voters/audience.
He identifies them as refugees yet then doesnt really do anything to give them aid, shelter or some form of comfort.

Just a case of move them on ASAP.

Whilst the PAF may well police the Calais/Juxtaposed area, they are helping police a business and business'. Assuring no breaches of the peace and wait, they are on French soil!

Scrapping Le Touquet would cause issues as it would slightly move the problem. Instead you would end up with issues on the Eurostar as people would just need to jump on a train and arrive at Ashford or King X. I suppose it might remove alot of the need for people to head to the coast.

Again, looking for some benefit from this possible fit of pique by M Barnier, could be that it forces UK gov to think sensibly about allowing "out of country" applications at diplomatic posts. If only all governements would look at the bigger picture than simply their own back yard.

Barnier is running for President, so, yes, he is tapping into a popular talking point for cheap votes. I also think in practice neither he or any of the front runners in the race would actually scrap the agreement, but if relations between France and the UK get any lower then who knows.

There is an argument that the French are acting as a buffer for the UK and that as long as the problem doesn’t materialise here, we are are happy to ignore it. You could also argue that the French are refusing people the right to cross into UK territory to claim asylum and that if we were presented with the problem on our doorstep it might force us to do something constructive like ‘out of country‘ applications. I wouldn’t bet on it though.

Yeah but they shouldn't be coming here obvs. A sane country which faces a shortage of people to fill vacant posts would be welcoming people with open arms and quickly processing them to match them to jobs but instead we deny them access and damage our own economy and with everything that this relates to the only explanation is - " yeah but forriners innit mate "
Are you OK?

FFS mate - calm the fuck down and try to not let your agenda control your life - and your every post on this site

Just saying................
