31 deaths including a child. Good God.
No other country on Earth operates a system you favour, none.
To suggest we should is simply not feasible, politically or logistically, regardless of the government of the day.
RIP all those who have sadly died today, a terrible human tragedy.
Really? So our infrastructure wouldn't be overloaded, our cities would expand even more and we would lose our greenspaces as more housing would be built. But you think we would cope? I doubt it? there would be chaos and massive overcrowding, it takes us years to build a new school a new hospital and decades to build a new motorway or railway line yet you think we could let in say 1million people a year and cope admirably?? I don't think so myself. No none. The world would be a better place if all were to reciprocate
and maybe you have just outlined the problem with the world in that post - thanks.

They are both working on ways to come out of this with as little bad publicity as possible. The French and British know the score.Well if that's the case why if the French minister down at the beach tonight and why is Boris holding an important meeting about it. Legally probably not, but morally yes. The worlds a smaller place these days with everyone havening a mobile phone and wanting better lives for themselves.
You never do like I say simple people rely on simple answersI doubt you will get a a numerical answer to that question.
No idea. That’s for the relevant people to deal with.what would be the criteria needed for a successful application into the UK ?
would there ever be a limit on numbers ? Say thousands applying every day ?
That may be true but its the French authorities responsibility to deal with the criminal gangs that capitalise on people desperation. It’s not entirely on them, we do have to acknowledge that there’s a lot of people that want to apply for asylum in the U.K. that have been given no viable route of getting here. That needs to be resolved by both actions from the French government (stopping more of the boats) but also the U.K. by giving a viable way for people to claim aslyum here whilst not in the U.K. or means of a safer passage.
Plenty of British people were bombed out of their homes in WW2. They didn’t hotfoot to Switzerland. We should not be taking anyone who comes from the safe haven of mainland Europe. The asylum laws need a major update to prevent these tragedies. They weren’t drawn up when this people smuggling crime was prevalent. It’s the only way.
