Channel deaths | Four confirmed dead after migrant boat tragically capsizes (p 41)

Definitely agree that it can’t be an open door policy. We still need to follow due process and anyone denied who then takes their life into their own hands by trying to cross the channel won’t get much sympathy from me should it go to shit for their actions. But we’ve simply got to give them the chance first.
I think this government if we set up asylum centres in France or dealt with them at embassy's would refuse a lot of cases and they would head to calais anyhow.

The unofficial policy seems to be:-)

France
You want to take the chance off you go

The uk
You want to come here you are gonna have to take a chance we ain't gonna make it easy for you

Neither will publicly say it buts it obvious this is the current stance.

Surely the french government are a huge part of the the problem here. They are letting people smugglers and criminals openly operate in France, whilst exploiting people in need.

their then letting people cross the sea in so called boats, because they don’t want them in France. The french could easily stop a lot of this

This tradgedy is entirely the French authorities fault, The migrants leave their shores, where the UK has no juristriction. And the French are happy to let these people cross as they arnt in their country. Plenty of film footage of Gendarmes watching people leave France. They could also easily stop people buying these big dingies and could easily catch the smuggling gangs with easy undercover police operation. But they arnt interested.

Let's be fair if France was an island and we had borders with mainland Europe both countries would be acting exactly the same.

Yes I agree, and in that case the responsibility for these people would lie with us. But that isn't the case and therefore has no bearing on what's happening in the real world.

I don't know the answer but is there any legal reason why the French have to stop people getting in a dinghy?

Their argument could be we are dealing with them when they decide to stay in the country. Are they obliged to stop them leaving?

The simple fact is neither country wants them in any large numbers. There is nothing they have to do to stop them leaving and there is nothing we have to do to go out and grab them.

how on earth have you come to that co conclusion from his post?
You clearly have your own agenda

where do they originate? None are white Belgian Christians. Personally I have no problem with anyone coming here and we should be facilitating their arrival and helping them leave if they don't like it. Its called being civilised.
