Charging kids board

So how much should you and do you charge them for the privilege . Stepson is an apprentice electrician and since he started work me and Mrs Pabs have charged him £60 p/m after new year he got a substantial rise, with this in mind his rent has now gone upto £200 p/m . We told him the good news tonight and he’s took it like there’s been a death in the family. For this he gets a nice comfy bed , hot meal served nightly, washing and ironing , internet ( his bedroom looks like showcase cinema ) , packed lunches and numerous other sundries plus he does jack shit round the house, are we being unreasonable to what we charge him
If the rise is proportional with his increase in wage then it’s perfectly fair. I used to base it on a % of their take home wage. Think at the time it was 25%.

Tell the **** to let you know where you can get all that for £50 A week and you will fucking move in.

I was handing in £25 a week to my mum at his age, and we still had a bastard Empire then.

Get him told.

Had the same conversation with my sons about how much they were handing into their mum, my ex wife. Let's just say they were fucking at it too. Well up until our wee chat.

Another consideration is that when our second returned home after a break up we were having to cook full three veg and meat meals every night and a late supper too for him cos he’s always eaten like a trooper. Before he came back me and the Mrs might have just had soup and toast. He was on good money so I had no qualms about getting the cost of his grub out of him.

Tell him you'll drop it back to £60 but he does all the cleaning and he sleeps in the shed.
(Ensuring that the WIFI does not provide garden coverage).

Followed by informing him of the great life lesson /opportunity that he missed - if he had been pro-active in passing on some of his new found 'wealth', you would have accepted less of a contribution on a monthly basis.........

My son and daughter both pay £100 a month. That I have noticed includes everything including beer and vodka on he weekends and I know they clear a good £1400 or more a month each

It seems I am the unreasonable one when I ask for them to possibly buy some treats

After the first lockdown my sons girlfriend also moved in and has paid nothing despite me a few times saying to my lad when he lived at her house during the first lockdown that I hoped he was paying some money there.

Anyway they are moving into an apartment (flat) early March in the centre of Manchester. I hear this is around £1000 a month which includes gym, parking, fully furnished and utilities.

It will be a shock to them but I personally am looking forward to them going

'Kin hell you're housing and feeding your son and his girlfriend all for one 14th of his take home (let alone what she may earn)?

Granted I am a long way off having to broach this subject with my little ones but as has been suggested I feel a negotiated percentage (pending an agreed set of inclusions) to push them and potentially look to save an element of it for them for when they finally bugger off (if I can afford it at the time)...........

I didn’t have to pay ,but what I did have to do was put a % away to buy a house , I also went around oz for 6 weeks when I was a apprentice but my folks wanted me to have fun while I was younger

In my 3rd year I bought my house , I’ll be doing the same for my child too

I worked with 1 guy who mum Took 60% off him to get him ready for the real world but gave him it all back when he was buying his house
