Chelsea (A) Post Match Thread

Pep likes him because he allows us to keep possession better than Sterling/Sane. He’s come from a counter attack style to possession football and imo he’s done fine considering he’s been here 4 months.

Think we wanted better than fine.

Disappointing performance but Chelsea deserved the win.
Be glad when Aguero and KDB are back, any side would miss players of their calibre and we're no different.

The Mahrez penalty miss: -2 points
The Pickford last minute howler: -2 points
Kante's sucker punch: -1 point.

Media having a wankfest.
It does start to feel like the narrative is being written.
All we can do is fight on.

We played beautifully in the first half and created sufficient opportunities to score. Alas, in front of goal we exhibited all the hesitancy and awkwardness that was on display last season. The moment we fell behind, however, it was going to be dreadfully difficult to breach Chelsea's defence.

We've failed to beat the three best teams we've faced this season, one twice, though arguably we've been the better side for the vast majority of the time on the respective parks. Key players will return, but on current form, key players will also go out injured again. Guardiola needs to use the rest of this month to extract more from certain 'periphery' players (Bernardo/Jesus/Gundogan/Mahrez), but he also needs to fathom how to get more from our fullbacks in offence when the wingers are stuttering.

With the exception of Sterling, our lack of desire to get back into the game was rather baffling.

It was almost as if we were content with a loss just as long as we completed an abundance of square passes.

I know many will question his decision to play without a recognised striker but the inclusion of Merlin was Pep’s biggest mistake this evening. He looked exhausted from the very start.

A game we should have won in the first half , not going to start criticising the team or manager after the run we have had for sixty odd games , a bad day at the office is a load of absolute bollocks from the usual culprits on here , we came up against a side who were there for the taking and we were not clinical enough , how we didnt confirm our superiority with a two or three goals lead is the question. The chavs got a goal against the run of play and Sarri was tactically astute enough to nullify our creative players in the 2nd half. Congrats to Sarri and his players their negative approach worked , but they will never be title contenders , they can now proudly take the "We beat Man City Cup" from the Dippers it is the only silverware they will see this season

The injuries to KDB, Sergio, and Mendy are starting to hurt us. In addition Delph is creaking at left back against better opposition and Walker has a bit of a World Cup hangover. Silva has clearly been carrying an injury the last couple of games. Chelsea scored with their first shot and from a non-corner.
Despite all that I am sure we will come roaring back. The Everton match is a big one though. Pep doesn't make many mistakes but I think he should have left Sane on. Mahrez has his strengths but is not as effective when we are chasing a game.

The one thing I worry about is that our form over the last few games (not terrible, but not at our best) and the busy schedule will tempt Pep into rushing players back before they're ready. Hopefully not.
