Chelsea (A) - Sun 18th Aug '24 | Post Match Thread

Thought Kova was just majestic today. Great performances all over the pitch - had this game been played later in the season I'm sure we'd have stuck four in. Actually, one of the smoothest start of the season games for years, as most seasons we don't hit our stride until a couple of months in.

Gundogan not so discreetly put the feelers out that he wanted to come back to City last summer and he immediately regretted leaving.
From the BBC gossip page.......

Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, 33, has told Barcelona officials that he wants to leave the club, just over year after signing from Manchester City on a free transfer. (Sport - in Spanish)

Make what you want of it.

Might have been asked already, but anyone know why chelsea didn't have a main shirt sponsor ?

Good win boys, a few nervous moments, but overall controlled things with less possession than normal.
i think the revised rules {the recent hearing CITY contested}has made these type of deals more difficult,

Brilliant performance.

Obviously, we were not at our best, but the quality of the team was far superior to our opponents, at least as a collective.

Rico was my MotM, but there were several excellent displays, including Mateo, Savinho,Jérémy and Rúben.

Erling took his goal brilliantly and Kova's was outstanding, though Sánchez should probably have saved it. It was a fantastic strike, after a great run.

Apart from a w0-minute spell in the second half, we pretty much controlled the game, and though the possession stats were fairly equal, most of Chelsea's was in their own half; a long way from danger.

On that showing, Pep can introduce the five players involved in the semifinals and final of the Euros gradually. There is no need to rush them back.

I can’t wait for Saturday, and seeing the boys at Etihad.
