That's five excuses
I've got another one if indeed we don't win it
We were simply not good enough and the better side won it.

spot the rag.

here's another excuse rag. or a reason as most intelligent people would call it. Not once have we had our best team out. the candle holders always have theirs out.
they are lucky this year. we haven't been.

Those stats are bollocks.

Rodwell has only missed 19% of the season?

“If we don't win it I would prefer Brendan to win it because he is my friend,” said Mourinho.

He said it in February.

God knows what team mourinho is going to put out at anfield. Given this comment and the way the cl semi fixtures have fallen, I'm certainly not going to expect any favours from Chelsea next weekend. I think there is more chance of palace taking points off Liverpool tbh.
I think (and I could very well be wrong) you underestimate his overriding will to win, and equally, not to witness at first hand his own side's failure. Defeat for Chelsea next Sunday will unleash triumphalist scenes at Anfield, and justifiably so. It will mathematically end Chelsea's title chances, and whilst Mourinho may be resigned to that eventuality, like Woody Allen, he "won't want to be there when it happens". He would enjoy ruining their party too much to ease off the gas.

Gore Vidal's quote should be etched on his tombstone imo:

"It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail."

It sums him up to a 't'.

I can't see him telling his players go and run yourself into the ground for 90 mins in a game that means absolutely nothing
Their biggest game of the season is three days later where more than likely they will be chasing a first leg loss
I know where your coming from regarding he will want to piss on their chips but I really think it will be as good as a reserve side fielded.

Haha! He's clearly got inside my head. Genuinely not intentional :-)

I hope you're right but I suspect he will now have only an overriding will to win the Champions' League unfortunately. I'd be astonished if he would put that at risk in any way whatsoever. If Benitez was still managing LIverpool then at least there would be a grudge there to motivate him but I don't think he'll be remotely arsed about spoiling his pal's big opportunity. Mind you if Benitez was still in charge they wouldn't be on the verge of winning the league.

After the ruck on the Chelsea bench, and Mourinho's press conference, he and the Chelsea dressing room will be well up for the game at Anfield.

If any team is capable of beating Liverpool then it's Chelsea because they have a manager wise enough to park the bus for the first 30 minutes. Why more teams haven't done this I will never know because Liverpool can be beaten pretty easily in the second half once they've shot their bolt.

You do have to wonder if they'll change plan though considering this is the first time in a long time they don't have to win the game.

There will be plenty of other advantages the Dippers will call in to ensure that were they to play the most dreadful game of the season, Stevie Starfish would be awarded the honour of a 99th minute penalty.

Chelsea can still win the title.why wouldn't they be up for it ,?if the staff /players,had the same defeatist attitude half the posters on here have ,the same posters would be the first to scream blue murder, are we honestly saying ,Chelsea to win at anfield and city to win 5 on the trot is a impossible pipe dream,i aint loosing hope till the fat lady sings
