Chelsea - FA Cup SF | Post-Match Thread

H e is trying, to sum tune he is trying, VERY trying, what you forgot to mention when you were telling us about how good he is with his 20 goals a season, what you forgot to tell us is,he NEEDS 40 CHANCES. to score 20 goals.

Not really sure you understand how scoring goals works John.

Messi would snap your hand off to be blessed with the ability to score 20 from 40.

Maybe seeing a shrink is a tad dramatic, but he certainly seems to have a mental block at the moment. He can’t even do the basic things right. His drop-off has been nothing short of astonishing, he’s certainly lost of bargaining power for his new contract.
Somebody like Steve Peters who has helped the following (as well as others): Sir Chris Hoy, Steven Gerrard, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Victoria Pendleton, could possibly get Raz's head right?

The quadruple was always highly unlikely. Too many things had to go our way to win it. Note that the players who played vs Dortmund struggled: Kevin injured himself, Dias and Rodri weren't great. It was a fantasy to hope that the team from Dortmund would turn up at Wembley and beat the shit out of Chelsea. We struggled even against West Ham the previous time we travelled in the CL and had less than 3 days to prepare.

Let me point out three major problems which have stopped us.

First, Aguero has been barely available all season. To play all season with just one genuine striker (Jesus, and he missed 2 months as well) is a bit too much even for an excellent squad like ours and a great manager like Pep.

Second, Sterling hasn't been in form this season and has fallen off a cliff over the last 6-7 weeks. So, we are missing not only Aguero's, but also Sterling's contributions in the run-in: that is, the goals and assists of our leading goalscorers from the previous 3-4 seasons. That we hoped to win everything without both of them contributing goals in the run-in was a bit naive in hindsight.

Third: Kevin's injuries. We managed to do well without him in February, but the likes of Bernardo and Gundogan played a bit too much and Pep has to be careful with their playing time in the most important part of the season. It didn't help that they started all 3 games during the international break.

Besides, Jesus has had a start-stop season. Plays his best game vs Leicester, but is on the bench vs Dortmund, which, let's face it, has probably disillusioned him to some extent. If he can't start a big game when Aguero is out, has he a good future at the club at all? Would we have been worse off with him on the left and Foden on the right?

Given our problems, especially Kevin's injury, we'll do well to win the PL and very well to win also the league cup. If we managed to win the PL + the CL without Sergio and Kevin, and with Sterling in a very poor form, that would be Pep's best achievement ever. In any case, Pep and the lads will try to do their best.
Quad is always unlikely but to get into this position

The point I was making is that he’s not even an athlete and he can do that. Professional footballers are highly tuned athletes.

As hard as I try I just can’t manage to convince myself it’s that hard to play football twice a week.
It isn't hard to play twice a week for most players as they will do similar in training if they don't play, but to perform at near your peak is.

This thread is incredible. The facts are as follows: Chelsea played at home on Tues night against a very ordinary Porto side (their luck to draw them). We had a tough road trip to Germany on Wed night against a much stronger opponent in a very fast-paced and sapping game. It is not surprising that the large gap between us and Chelsea was closed and we lost. Yes our backup players were disappointing, but every good team relies on a few stars. Take out Bayern's best 6 or 7 players, and we would likely beat them comfortably.

If we really wanted to do some good in the cup we should have let Cheltenham town beat us ! They would have got an even better pay day than they did. I mean at the end of the day its not as if we took the FA Cup seriously in the end !
