Chelsea (H) | Post-Match Thread

A few things: 1)I fear that we've peaked and Chelsea's best is still to come. 2)We looked lack luster, no creativity whatsoever in midfield to start. 3)Aguero cost us at least a draw trying to be cheeky vs hitting a virtual sure thing. 4)VAR still is broken. 4-6) if today isn't Mendy's last game in a City shirt we might as well sign him to a 4 year extension as he's shocking anywhere but the final 3rd. 7) Go Villa.
1 ridiculous statement - have you even watched our recent games
2 it was a second string team selection with new formation he was trying out
3 a virtual sure thing? We are crap at penalties!
4 yep
4 6 he is leaving
7 yes

A hundred and eighty pages! FFS!.

No fucking way I'm reading all the wrist slitting.

Would someone, please kindly summarise it?
Arrogance personified, from selection, to that appalling penalty miss.

Not a day to remember.

Today we should be celebrating another title, yet we feel disappointed and a little angry.

Honestly just seeing that annoys me
Most unpeplike eleven, 5 defenders, 4 forwards and ONE midfielder. It's a surprise we controlled the game as much as we did.

2) Because we had no midfield today and we won't play that way in any game of real importance.

Pep has thrown Aguero under the bus with this one.

Clearly pissed off but could’ve easily answered the question “he missed, it happens” but decided on “it’s his decision” to clearly show is disappointment with Serge.

Well guess what Pep, deciding on that dogshit starting 11 was your decision and that didn’t work out either.

We will still win the league but there was no need for so many changes, a change of formation and using players who are bang out of form

Where does 1. come from? Chelsea is a team enjoying incredible success right now, and have been for two months. They still have to play ridiculously hard matches and less rest time. Keeping it going for another 3 weeks is going to be miraculous.
We haven't peaked at all. We lost matches left right and center, we were so rough against PSG ( apart from the goals we didn't keep the ball well against PSG). It will keep us hungry and concentrated for the final. the fact we now play almost 1match per week will keep main players fit for the final.
We cannot predict anything but the fact we lost 2 consecutive matches against them means we are no longer "clear favorite" in the final as the media would have wanted people to believe. We will therefore be hungry for revenge. Nobody wanted to lose yesterday but that might be exactly what we need.

Stop bigging up Chelsea it’s nauseating.

I read the first ten pages and thought I had wandered on to Red Cafe after a defeat.

Chelsea were better than us, they proved the FA Cup SF was no fluke. They are a better side than us and probably the best side in the country, if not Europe at the moment. Defensively they are as good a side as you will ever see. They were superb and thoroughly deserved their win. I have zero complaints at all about being beat by a better side.

Rodri was caught dwelling on the ball, not because Rodri is suddenly shit, but because the Chelsea press is superb and they gave him no options. Normally we would have two, maybe three options for a pass because of the way we move, Chelsea closed that down and Rodri had nowhere to go. You only have to look at the amount of times they forced us backwards. No team this season has done that to us. Thats why our goal came from a long ball over the top, it was our only outlet and we caught them rather luckily due to their lad doing his hamstring.

Even then though we had a chance to make it 2-0, but Sergio bless him looks so lacking in confidence that is why he tried a panenka. He always goes just inside the post with his pens, that is why he misses some, its narrow margins. Their keeper will have been studied beforehand on penalties and although I am not certain, he probably does dive every time this time he didn't, well done the keeper, psyched him out.

There is a reason I don't post until the day after games, because knee jerk reaction is most unseemly and usually a load of nonsense, this thread proves it. So take a measured look at the game, think why things happened rather than just posting, he is shit, he is shit, he is shit, he is shit, wow be me, they are all shit. That is fucking nonsense. If they were all shit do you really think they would be PL footballers. Some players have bad days, it happens, everyone has bad days. Every single person on this thread will have had a bad day. because believe it or not footballers are human too, just like you and me.

Then there are calls to play the best team, yeah that is possible, but if you asked ten people on here what the best team is, i would put money on there being ten different teams, because we don't have a best team, we have a good squad. We also do not have knowledge, we do not know who is fit, who may be carrying a knock, whose wife might be in hospital, you know those normal human things that affect every ones lives every day. There is also fatigue, we have played a lot of football and unless you are superhuman you can not play sport at the highest level every three days like we have been doing now for months.

There is also the tactical side, why on earth would you reveal your plan to counter what happened in the FA Cup semi in a league game we did not have to win, when we could save that plan for a game that could possibly make us Champions of Europe. Posters here might want that so they can brag to their mates we are Champions, but we will be Champions anyway, so just be patient. Does that banner that used to be at the Swamp not remind you patience is a virtue.

Onto the game though, I thought Sterling was very lucky not to get a straight red in the first half and I thought Jesus deserved a straight red in the second half, because Chelsea did to us what we did to PSG, they frustrated us. They knocked us out of our rythym, because they are a fucking good side and they will take some beating in the CL final. In fact I think they are favourites. Its not ideal losing to them yesterday and they will gain confidence from it and as football is as much a game played in the mind than with a ball, it will give them an extra edge. We did have some bright spots, I thought Ake played well, Laporte was superb, but we were always on the back foot against there press and we never had the game under control at any point.

So you can mard arse about us losing, we were beaten by a far better side, and i think they would have probably beaten our mythical best eleven as well. If you are clever get some money on Chelsea winning the league next season, they are the best side we have faced this season by a long way and yesterday they didn't even play their best team.

Pep picked a weakened side,he gave fringe players (a couple who are clearly struggling for form/fitness) some game time, there are arguments for and against that decision.
As above,Chelsea were the stronger team yesterday and they deserved to win.
The two things i took away is that yet again it proves our squad depth is a myth, and, barring injury, the team we put out in 3 weeks will be vastly different and more than ready to make amends for the two games we have surrendered to them recently.
We have a team of winners, the fire will be raging, they won't accept another defeat to those fuckers.
