Very true & no one bar the usual suspect is going over the top about it from what I can see. But if the worse was to happen (which no one can guarantee it won't), it will bring these missed opportunities to wrap up the title into sharp focus. The thing with football is that it’s not just about what happens on the pitch, it’s also behind the scenes and keeping everyone happy.
We’ve got a large squad and keeping everyone happy is just as important as getting things right on the pitch.
Those who didn’t play on Tuesday mostly got game time and a chance to win a league title, and truth be told, they probably would have pulled it off if it wasn’t for Aguero missing that pen.
It’s not all about tactics and ‘getting it right’. Pep would have known the risks going into the game but knows full well if it doesn’t come off then we have chances to put it right - which we 100% will do.
If we lift that CL trophy in May, sealing a treble, then absolutely no one will give a single shit what happened in that Chelsea game and that’s why there’s no point in going over the top about it.
Personally, I wasn't talking about wholesale changes on Saturday, I was thinking rest who needs resting, play the players who could be considered to start the final eg: Sterling, Aguero, Rodri/Aguero, Cancelo, Laporte etc, but keep the meat of the team who've served us so well so far. We've another 20+ days & 3 matches to give fringe players game time, & to rest & rotate the likely CL Final starters.
The players who started on Saturday missed an opportunity against Leeds, they missed an opportunity against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi. What made anyone think Saturday's potential title decider would end any differently? That body of players have had the same opportunities as everyone else. Is Pep wrong for selecting those players on form for these crucial matches?
We had enough on Saturday to win. If we'd have started strongly, put clear Sky Blue water between us & Chelsea & then introduced some of the fringe players once the match was safe, who'd be complaining today? No one I suspect, even those who may have missed out on Saturday. They've had their chances.
