Pep is a great manager perhaps the greatest ever but he is not god and can make mistakes but the way some on here hang on every pep word is bizarre ha .

It's the fall back position to any criticism, comment, analysis, discussion. As though raising any such things is somehow being the subversive enemy within and they're the self-appointed guardians of the club.

It's not their stance that's necessarily wrong and it is a forum afterall, but the way they go about belittling and using these fall back point scoring comments. Of course 999 times out of 1000 Pep gets it right and knows better.

No one said play the exact team, but to mix & match those able to play, alongside those who could probably be considered for the final like Sterling, Aguero, Rodri, Cancelo, Laporte. Bringing in those 5 wouldn't have severely weakened our team to the extent changing 9 did.

Who knows what would have happened if we'd have approached Saturday like Chelsea did with targeted rotation, instead of wholesale changes.

Pep did as many predicted, & we lost as many feared. It doesn't take being Pep Guardiola to work that one out as a possible outcome against a strong Chelsea side. As it stands, we lost & Pep got it wrong. Those are the only facts of the matter that count right now, so you can be as much of a contrary twat as you like, it won't change that fact.

So instead of wrapping up the league, & resting for 20+ days, we've now got more meaningful matches to play, risking injuries to players. Think about it.... Take all the time you need. :-|

I see where you’re coming from but if the penalty goes in and it’s 2 0 at HT the game is virtually won even with so many changes and this thread would be 100 pages less !

If's don't win matches mate. Making sure we cover all bases does. We didn't cover all bases & lost, so our season now goes on, & the players who could have rested & be lightly rotated for the next 3 weeks, will now have to risk injury in meaningful matches.

It's still not mathematically impossible for Newcastle to get relegated. They won't be lying down, legs akimbo & ready to take one for City. We've now potentially got a team with something to fight for, risking our players in the process.

I don't know what school you went to but newcastle cannot get relegated unless you get more points all of a sudden

As I said, it's all about opinions, & just like arsehole's, everyone's got one.

We've got strikers, just not a supreme striker in his prime as we did with Aguero. I suppose this summer will tell us a lot about the direction of the team over the next couple of seasons.

In terms of the heavy rotation, I think the point everyone's making is if we'd have rotated less & treated Saturday as the title decider it was, rotation, tactics, & playing personnel wouldn't have mattered as we'd have achieved 2 out of 4 season objectives, with one remaining & three weeks plus to prepare.

This would have been my preference.

My preference too. But and it’s a big but. I don’t think we have four season objectives. Four trophies granted. And that is probably what we,as fans,mostly think about.
Pep and the club want a squad of 22/23 players that can slot in at anytime against any opponent and win.
They need match fitness.
They need to play different positions.
They need to know our patterns of play.
Their task within the pattern.
They need to know our set plays.
They need to be trusted in big games.
They need to know we trust them in big games.
That’s an objective in itself. And it will be high up on the list.

And that’s along with the argument of players needing rest. Not giving away first hand experience of how we play. Giving players the chance to earn a medal.
The list goes on. The objectives are many.

An out and out striker is just not for us. And I have come round to the fact that I actually don’t want us to get one.
I like the way we play and I’ve accepted that my favourite players might not play.
