Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

At first I thought it was the correct thing to do.

But thinking about it now I think it's the wrong decision and was taken in hast.

All football postponed, so no kids grassroots football. Smaller clubs will have to cancel their food orders, meaning the suppliers lose money.
The part time stewards, bar staff etc all lose money.
Alot of people down the 'food' chain will be hit financially just as the cost of living is on the up.

Fans will lose £100's on travel and possibly hotels.

It seems to me that the fa and premier league didnt think about the costs to the normal working people employed in football or the fans.

Is this how the queen would want the general public to suffer on her passing ?

Makes you wonder if the decision was based more on the fact that William prince of Wales is their president.

I feel that football fans have missed out on showing their respect to the queen. No point doing it next weekend some 8 days later.

Football should be going ahead this weekend.
The FA never think of the fans. As much as I loved King Charles' speech it would have been good if he said life should go on as we pay our respects or similar. Meaning let's not cancel everything out of misplaced loyalty and mourning. I think its the wrong decision. A tough one but wrong.

When King George VI died, a king widely admired and massively respected for his leadership in WW2, in a country where probably 98% of the population was royalist, football still went on.

The world has changed since then. One of the bad changes is that mourning is no longer a private, quiet, respectful thing, but has changed into public hysteria and performance.

Another change is that a large minority of the population are republicans and that another large minority are quite indifferent. I have rarely seen a better example of 'tyranny of the majority' or of 'freedom of speech' meaning 'freedom to agree with the majority'.

I do not see how playing football this weekend would have disrespected the Queen, any more than the equivalent back in 1952 disrespected her father.

She gave us 70 years.

The least the public can do is give up a weekend of football.

I don't think many can quite comprehend what a huge moment in time this is, irrespective of your own viewpoint.

It's bigger than any sport, stuff our great grandchildren will be reading about in school 100 years from now.

Certainly not did City fuck up again at home to Spurs this weekend.
What in pray tell me did she give us?
Hopefully someone's grandchildren will read about how we became a republic and ditched this obscene archaic institution

I think ultimately it was a case of who made the decision first. Football, racing, cricket, rugby all looking at each other to make the first move.

It was a test of the balls those in decision making positions at the PL, EFL and FA, and the fact they showed absolutely no balls should be of no surprise to anyone. As the great Garry Cook once said, “they bottled it”. Purely in fear of negative PR. The point here is that because they are so out of touch with society and life, they feared that negative PR. If they knew the people of this country, they needn’t have had those fears.

Cricket and Rugby were able to see football make their decision, the immediate and rumoured backlash as the hours went by, and decide in full confidence to carry on as normal with marks of respect thrown in.

I honestly believe if it had been the other way round, football would have gone ahead.

At the end of they day, we’ve missed out on losing to spurs for the day so it’s not the end of the world, but the biggest point is the reminder of just how pathetically out of touch football is with reality.

They play at 14:30 tomorrow, so now we get a nice rest ahead of that. Puts us at an advantage now. Get that won, get a good result against Copenhagen and we’re pretty much qualified then.

See, there’s always a positive to be taken!
Except the negative of having to play the Spuds game when the players could have been having a break in an exception hetic period

I am totally confused on this as reason some sports events all going ahead as nornmal and others cancelled....is it to do with Royal Family connections?

Football is the most popular game and 1000's of fans could have showed respect to the Queen at the games today. Also some fams might have found some real comfort in being a community together in grief while showing that respect to Royal Family and the Queen.

The decision to cancel some sports not others makes no sense given fact they had 30 years planning this event "Operation London Bridge" they called it???

I am now playing golf today as now been told golf all open and golf event BMW Wentworth is on, even though golf has close royal links i.e. R&A - we have a photo of Queen in our clubhouse like all clubs do, this will be replaced with King Charles III.

So, if the country is to mourn the Queens death as ONE nation the planning and decision making needs to have been better as this is just causing disunity and division.

On positive note with Champs League game midweek we always said be good not to play weekend, so might work out well for us.

Agreed - I do think the FA and PL have completely misread the situation yet again. The monarchy and Gov stated that games could go ahead - indeed the scenes at West Ham were very moving and I suspect if they had thought about it as adults and allowed games to continue it would have been a much better tribute seeing an outpouring of respect and condolences in packed grounds up and down our nation.

This is not an argument about if you support the monarchy or if you prefer to be a republican it's solely about a group of old duffers, who constantly make stupid decisions in some vain attempt to be relevant. Our national game is the envy of the world yet it is overseen by a group of out of touch muppets.

We know Liverpool fans would be disrespectful, yet still enjoy another possible day off work but they are a breed apart and if we all had our way the entire City would be cut off and pushed into the Irish Sea.

Personally I am sad that our Queen has passed but for the love of God to cancel games, games where most (Liverpool shite apart) could show respect is beyond stupidity. Don't get me started on cancelling grass roots stuff - The Queen herself would have wanted to see youngsters running around in the fresh air rather than stuck in front of glass screens, wide eyed and trance like.

So in summary do F*** O** the governing bodies that run our most cherished game, this was a bad call but one of many and there is no way anyone can tell me differently.
