He already has his main striker in Costa. We need someone different. He's both different and a huge improvement on Torres.
He won't stay. He's too good to sit on the bench and Mourinho has made it pretty clear that he's going with Courtois. He has no shortage of suitors, PSG and Monaco have made inquiries earlier in the summer. Madrid seems to be back under Casillas' control so that's probably off the table. The concern is whether we can get rid of Torres in time. "Minor muscle injury". I didn't see it myself but people on our forums were saying CTV said he was already back in training. I actually suspect this might have something to do with the internationals coming up.
