Chelsea Thread 2014/15

Mourinho definitely backed the wrong horse/horses strikers wise his first season back in the premier league. I've only seen Costa in the world cup and he was shite but I don't expect he amassed all those goals he scored In la liga from flukes, though he may not acclimatise too well in a different country and league. Chelsea hope he will.

Looks like they have agreed a deal for Felipe Luis

Not putting a bad side together at the moment, although I still think their way off in the middle of the park

Mourinho is trying to hijack Khediras move to Arsenal, they would be a very solid side with him added as well

At this point in the transfer window they should be considered clear favourites

Matching the formation you've gone with, player for player, we're arguably stronger in every position bar the GK.

When you look at players in not in the 11, again for me, we're much stronger: Negredo, Dzeko, Jovetic, Navas, Clichy, Sagna, Demichelis, Nastasic, Milner, Caballero.

For what it's worth, I don't rate Costa that highly at all, I actually think Atletico have upgraded by signing Mandzukic.

I cant see any reason why they should be considered CLEAR favourites, as you put it. I understand some people think they will win it and fair enough, but there's nothing in their squad to make them clear favourites over us.

I think Diego Costa is shite, anyone agree with my opinion? I guess it can't get worse than Torres and Ba

Such a insightful summary, which top team where you head talent scout for again?

Hahaha you silly fool. So Chelsea can beat the teams that finish ahead of you without a decent striker but couldn't manage to beat relegation fodder?
Hahaha you silly fool. So City can beat the teams that finish near them but only some of the time with a decent strike force, but couldn't manage to beat relegation fodder or a Championship side with a decent strike force.
Works both ways.

How does it work both ways?

You were able to beat the teams around you but choose to ironically blame your strike force for not being able to beat the lesser teams

The fact that you beat us twice and we still finished 4 points clear of you speaks volumes

So yes you did bottle it and we clearly showed why we are champions :)

Really?

He played a huge role in helping Atletico to a champions league final and winning la liga. He cant that bad.

Was shite at the world cup but so was Aguero. Both were clearly no where near fit, every time they played towards the end of last season they ending up going of with an injury.

Whether he adapts to English league who knows. Hopefully not.

Good player but a red card waiting to happen another mental case IMO who got away with a lof in Spain.
I would argue that he isn't World Class. Needs to do it for a few more seasons as he's had what, an excellent year aand a half in an otherwise solid career? The World Class bracket is thrown around to eagerly.

Funny thing is, we amassed more points than you, or any other team over the course of the season and finished with 2 more pots than you this year. So in the grand scheme of things, it's more of a concern to you, than it was to us last season.

For me they now have the best keeper in the league (courtois), the best left back in the league if they sign him as expected (felipe luis), one of the best midfielders (Fabregas, who is only second to Silva and Yaya in a central position) the best attacking wide player (Hazard) and one of the best strikers (costa).

People talk about great teams having a spine, 5 world class players that the team is built around. Personally I think last year we won the league because of this, and because we have the best balance than any other team in the league. Chelsea have at least equalled us in my opinion.

Chelsea key 5:
Courtois
Felipe/Ivanovic
Fabregas
Hazard
Costa

City key 5:
Hart
Kompany
Yaya
Silva
Aguero

If we can keep our key players fit then I still think we have the edge on Chelsea but it will be very very close.

I think we win that 4-1

Normally, I would agree that, player for player, we're just as strong as they are.

But I think the key difference is that Chelsea's formation works far better than ours does simply because Diego Costa works better than Aguero has a lone striker. He might be just as strong and powerful as Costa is, but Aguero tends to prefer playing off someone like Costa so that he can drop deep and carry the ball. It hasn't really worked when we've tried Aguero on his own in front of two play-makers. The only striker we have who can lead the line in the way that formation suggests is Dzeko, and I wouldn't say he's quite as good as Costa at doing the same job. We'll have to see how Costa copes in the Premier League before we get a full opinion on that, but for me I'd say Chelsea are currently favourites by a hair.
